Inventory upgrade
Thinking in the amount of resources/tools and their size, the inventory is not big enough in several situations. Here some ideas:
  • 1. More slots
  • 2. Pile up similar things For example, if you pick up 5 quartzs, just pile them up in the same slot with a number index showing up the amount of them. Drag with left click for move all, or right click for pick up the half... (i bet a lot of you guys know I mean hehe, several other games use this and it is really useful) LIMITED to máximum 10 or 15 units.
  • 3. Moving things from inventory to the belt After moving something from inventory to the equiped slots, remove it from inventory, like a separated belt with those 5 slots.
  • 4. Mixing all points More slots in the inventory, piling up the same resources/tools and separated belt.

What do you think guys? What idea do you like more? (sorry, i have no idea how to do a poll, would be GOOD idea here i guess)

Well... if you want to consider the reality, your are right, but also... why you can swim faster than running on ground? Why only barely 3 minutes oxygen when real divers can stay for 2 hours?... If you looking for reality... we start bad, dont you think?
PS: Let me fix my first list, of course the amount of piled up things is not infinite, we can say max 10 units per slot.

Devs wated to make the game as real as possible, but needed to limit thinks to make sense (like oxygen), when you get a brick you hold to it, if you get 10 bricks they are 10 bricks, not one with a number in it. Inventory as it is is already not real, you have like 50 spaces on you already, 50 titanium (supposing 1 titanium is 1kg) its already not real, adding this things you propose will make the game too easy, as you would probably not need any place to store thinks because there is less than 48 basic materials, and most of them you dont need 15 in the entire game. Half or more of the game could but cut off.

Today every diver has the knife equipped on his/her lower leg (one slot free)
Divers also can use a headlight to have both hands free!?

Why not possible in that future?
Especially the flashlight makes me crazy! Looks like a overdimantional hairdryer and blocks one hand completly while not letting me use the other hand to build!

It's like: see and do nothing or use other things blind!

Inventory is good as it is! Don't touch that!

It is all game balance. Any time the word "realism" is used, it shouldn't.

This is a game where with a handful of rocks you can construct entire station habitats, huge aquariums, and complex vehicles.

you go out collect some ♥♥♥♥, and then go back to base and store it. if you don't have the space and have no way of making more at the moment, collect ONLY WHAT YOU NEED to proceed. its called inventory management.

check what you can craft, if you don't have that one thing, check your inventory and or storage and see if you have the metrials if not look what you need to make it and go find those exact materials and nothing more and craft the item. you really don't need more inventory space if you know how to manage it. i suggest you learn it. and NOT mine and collect every single thing under the waves if you don't need it at the moment.

I want something that allows me to build more freely but keeps everything else the way it is.

I simply want my Hab builder to have access to any lockers attached to the current base, or even a special large locker or vault for materials.

This way you keep inventory the way it is for exploration but still allow a less frustrating build experience.

Only time I need more is building a base.

Besides, lots of the resources are limited (there is a lot, but are limited) and finite

Also I have a suggested compromise for quick slots. IF they won't just add more how about a Lock. Click and hold to lock it in the spot. So I can set certain ones to never change, and maybe one/two slots that I allow for swapping.

That would make me so happy. Give me quickslot locks!

The problem is, when you need to use the Glider for example (using several slots) and also the repair tool for some doors, also the Lasser cutter for others doors in a same wreck... reserve of food and water, reserve of 2 batteries... at the end, you have the half of inventory free for the resources you are looking for hehehe. I repeat that pile up resources is also limited for example 10 units, or maybe 5, when reached the limit use a new slot for continue.

I think it's quite well balanced actually. I do have to limit what I take with me, but not horribly so. Managed to make it most of the way through the game without cursing it. I really like how different objects take up differing amounts of inventory squares, quite elegant system.

My inventory is always only, knife, repair tool, laser cutter, glider, air bladder (only early game) and 2 or 3 batteries.
You dont need to have water on you as it lasts almost forever to deplete, maybe 1 or 2 food for long explorations until you get the heat blade and instant cook you food.
if youre doing exploration i recommend using the seamoth, use 2 slots for containers, 1 for depth module and the last one either another container or a defence mechanism.
With this setup i can go for exploration and wrecks in more than half of the map to then go back to the base to replenish water and dump materials from inventory/containers

Need to get rid of air bladder.
