Though most of the energy economy remains very screwy.
Don't try to recharge small batteries when you're not someplace the thermal reactor works. Oh my goodness.
Now... Do you have any thoughts why the fire supression can't be crafted without lava biome only crystaline sulhpur?
Why is a sprinkler system one of the hardest items in the game to craft? That's up there with the final depth upgrades, thermal reactors, and Blue artifact needed to beat the game in how late access is.
Bulkheads closed, blue lights came on, fires went out, went to check on power cells. Only 6 energy drained (from my full speed ahead I'm certain).
From a gameplay perspective, my guess is the player is meant to 'learn' how to manage the cyclops properly while minimizing fire hazards. I've never caught fire from Leviathan attacks before, merely trying to get a few seconds of extra speed out of my Cyclops (RIP fire extinguishers). It's only when they get to the lava zone where Sea Dragons can easily and actively cause your Cyclops to burst into flames that the Module becomes easily buildable.
Although, your information might be a little dated. Crystalline Sulphur is easily available from the Lost River onwards. I found all of what I needed from the Ghost Forest alone.
As for the endgame upgrades, it seems to be a case of 'first foray, learn', 'second foray - triumph'. I don't believe the first time player is expected to stay in the new biome for TOO long - rather I believe they're meant to get a taste of the danger that awaits them on their first visit or two, then learn to overcome the problems with planning and preparation before venturing further.
Certainly, my first experience had me VERY tense when I finally decided to build a base in the Lost River - I spent half my game time just down there, in the depths, mapping out every junction, dead end and biome entrance with beacons, Stasis Rifle and prayers at hand.
And after the first time I took my Cyclops into the ILZ, I simply 'noped' at the prospect of losing my Cyclops and parked it in the ILZ corridor, then proceeded purely by Prawn.
Either way, I have personally never needed the Fire Suppression System - all fires caused were my own doing, and otherwise I have managed to avoid needing it just by driving carefully. Experiences vary between users but this is my testimony.
There was also a stretch where sea dragons would "I'm not technically attacking you!" hump my parked engine off cyclops over and over until it's tilting 90 degrees hull would smash into rocks. So automatic fire extinghuishers to combat bad AI logic was very convenient back when the thermal reactor was bugged to take 300 minutes.
"Let's see. how fast is the reactor working this patch-*90 degree camera angle* here we go again"
On the one hand, Sea Dragons seem less prone to headbutt parked engines off ships now. On the other hand, more frequent reports of them clipping into the containment facility to kill people indoors.
I DO remember ONE time I saw the tentacles of the Sea Dragon clip into the PCF, and the one in my current game likes deep-diving into the lava and staying there until I come around to say hi, but other than that nothing much weird happens down there.
