It'll take some doing, but there are two ways to get rid of it..
First, make three armor modules, get in your prawn, grapple it in the face, and drill away, drop off when you get low, repair..rinse and repeat until it's dead.
The second is to take your stasis rifle..use it..and knife it like a crazy person until it's dead..just make sure to bring a bunch of batteries..it'll take like 5 minutes of knifing.
The only other method that might work is a PRAWN with a drill arm and a grapple arm and physically dealing with it.
instagib allows anything to die with 1 point of damage, including yourself.
Type instagib, hit ghostly with knife, type instagib again to turn it off. Save game reload game. All is well.
Forget the drill... the regular punch does more damage than the drill.
Destination: Safe Shallows. Or the next wall.
But the punch needs to charge while the drill can be kept "on".
That's why I prefer the drill. Less chance of missing and having to wait while being slung around and trying to get close enough to it's head to attack again.
This tends to happen a lot when players use the grapple/drill method to try to deal damage to leviathans, but there are other causes. Not really a bug as the game is intentionally designed this way.
As for "how to get them to leave," you have to kill them; they won't leave that zone on their own. The safe shallows makes it very easy to kill them instantly with a habitat builder. Simply stasis them, then build a mutipurpose room or I-tube over their head. They'll immediately vaporize when the structure comes in and will be dead for good.
