Ingame map?
So far I enjoy the game, but I find one big flaw within the game. I don't see any form of ingame map thta would help me to navigate between areas. The beacons are not good because at some point I'd be spammed by beacons everywhere.

I agree. This game takes place in the furture but there are no maps?....

The world space is not that big, you can fabricate beacons to "map" locations.

It's an uncharted planet, duh.

The planet is basically uncharted why would there be maps laying around?
Not trying to put you down but exploration and discovery are a major part to this game.

the beacons can function as a fancy gps system if u set a few of them up. but aside from that that is one of the reasons the game has more replay value too. is because u are ALWAYS exploring after u play for a while u can get a good idea of whats where. just from the simple visual cues already present in the worldspace.

Uncharted planet doesn't mean you can't make a map - that's the whole point of exploration - to map places and "fill the gaps on the map". I often end up multiple times in the same place just because I don't have map to see where I was and where I wasn't.

Beacons....

Have you read my OP? The beacons doesn't work well beyond the point where you have dozens of them everywhere.

What do you mean by they don't work?

Very useful mod. It adds a map through the Steam Overlay's Web Browser. It updates every few seconds to let you now where you are. You can have it show biomes, wreck locations, thermal locations, lifepods, reaper locations, etc. You do have to run the installer again after an update (usually). It's very easy to use.

You can turn beacons on and off in your PDA so they don't fill the screen. There are no in game maps, but if you really wanted one I assume you could download one that's online and put it in a picture frame in your base.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see the point in something like this. Being spoon-fed leaves you with no reward.

I mostly use it to figure out where each biome is at. I've played enough that I already know my way around fairly well. Mostly, I just like to know where all the thermal vents are as I like to use them for a base's power.

I know I, for one, have a terrible memory. I'm nearing the end of the game and I still cannot find my way around.

I think you should be able to upload maps to your PDA from scanner stations. This way you would need to explore the map and build multiple bases to create a map.

Beacons are nice and all, but the most they can do is give you directions to a single point. A new player has no idea what points he's going to need to return to, so he would need hundreds of beacons to mark -everything- he encounters.

Keep in mind that not only does subnautica not have a map feature, it doesn't even have coordinates. It doesn't have biome names. All that stuff is hidden in the F1 screen -- which is a cheat, not a feature.

An exploration game should give you the tools you need to be an effective explorer -- including creating a map as you go. Your PDA makes a point at the beginning of the game that it's singular purpose is keeping you alive on an alien world. Why on earth would the people who programmed its survival software not give the user some way to map his surroundings?

Don't get me wrong, it's up to the individual to make a choice and I would never try to take that from someone. But what happens when life gets hard? You can't just ask for a cheat or mod to unf@#ck your situation, you need to buck up and figure it out.
Enough of my dad speach.
