Best "food" for bioreactor?
Is there a difference in what i put into the bioreactor, in terms of how much energy will i get out of it?
On one of my bases i built the bioreactor and several lantern fruit and chinese potatoe plants to feed it, but it seems that even putting the max allowed 4 fruits in it doesnt last long.

Is there something in particular i can grow to feed my bioreactor with better results?

thanks in advance!

Most hatched eggs creatures will have a high value in the bioreactor.

Expand the Energy Values section :)
Fish. Fish have the best energy per space.

One thing the wiki never mentions is SIZE of the reactor fuel.

Melons may give around 500 energy. but they are a 2x2 object. So a reactor maxed out with the best plants is like, 2,000 energy tops.

Even peepers meanwhile, are worth 750 energy each. while still being only 1 tile. So a reactor full of peepers is more like 12,000 energy.

Shoving whatever you want into the reactor is more than enough to keep the lights on and deal with light fabrication.

But using plants of any kind means having to stop and refill the thing SIX times as often, or more.

EDIT: Oh right. For some clarity. This only effects how long until you have to replace the fuel in the reactor. It does not effect output.

5 energy. 500 energy. 1,000 energy. The bio reactor's output is always a slow as mollasses "About 25 energy every minute". So in practice they work more like backup batteries.

Yeah, a trip to the jellyshroom caves to grab a pair of occulus once you have the means to breed them will net you a whole lot of power.
Lots of different preferences, I personally prefer gel sacks (suprise, they can be farmed in grow beds), because they are 1x1 and give a significant amount of power, and take up less space/maintenance than using an alien containment with fish.
I only have one base running on "bio fuel", in front of the Blood Kelp Forest's entrance to the Lost River, and that has a Lantern Tree right next to the reactor. I used it for recharging batteries and power cells while scanning for rubies, now it's just an air bubble.

Lantern tree without a doubt, it will keep ticking away a long time with 4, still gotta check on it now and then but there mega fuel.

Will be trying fish poo soon see how good that is.

Yeah that's what I use, it's not like they're that great of a food source anyway.

I like some hydration with my food.
The least amount of effort is probably fruit / plants. I kind of use it as a trash can for leftover seeds because it only kicks in at night. Solar panels take over during the day.
For remote bases go plant based(if you bother with them), for main base go fish based since you'll probably build a containment you can dual purpose it for fuel and food. Crash Fish for fuel, Reginald for food.

You can just eat as many latern fruit as you want for hydration since there's no penalty for eating 50 pounds of fruit now.

Oh you can just go full Cookie Monster and shovel everything in with no problem?
Okay then. :RogueChicken:

Yep, they removed the damage for overeating. Just grow 2-3 latern trees and go nuts.
Every time I make a bio-reactor room I put in a growbed of nothing but marblemelons. I hated marblemelons back when there was knife durability but since a knife can last forever now it's not that bad, just remember to save a few for seeds.
