How to deconstruct?

How do you deconstruct stuff in this game? I'm trying to get rid of some junk but the game doesn't seem to allow me.

I believe on PC it’s “Q” to deconstruct. You should get an onscreen prompt when holding the builder tool and facing the object you want to deconstruct.

If you have items clogging up your storage that you don't need, you need a trash can to get rid of them. Or you can just drop them outside.

Point the habit builder at what you want to deconstruct and press and hold Q. If it doesn't work press R and check your battery power. If the battery is dead use the mousewheel to go to another battery in your inventory.

Also make sure there's nothing else on the bit you want to deconstruct - you need to remove things like solar panels, lockers and similar first.

There are SOME bugs though. Scanner rooms will lose all installed mods if you deconstruct it (even tapping Q will do this, reconstructing it will NOT bring them back), and certain furnishings/additions may also disappear if you forget to remove them before removing/building over them.
