Is taming still a thing?
I started to play Subnautica after its full release, and I remember that you could tame stalkers using peepers. I also managed to tame a lava lizard and heard you could tame reapers. Instead, the PDA says you can feed these carnovores to destract them. So does that mean taming's no longer a thing?

Only stalkers.

I tried to tame stalkers, but it doesn't seem to work. It won't follow me or anything.

Because it doesn't do that when tamed. It just doesn't bite you and maybe gives you some metal salvage.

Oh. It used to follow me around. So when they are tamed, they just ignore you?

I was told releasing predators from my alien containment would give them a temporary passive buff but that totally didn't work for me..

My Ampeel and Crabsnake took a chunk out of my face the very second I set them free.. and my Crabsquid.. oh boy.. that thing went absolutely ******* postal when I set it loose.
Every fish, stalker and bone shark that was around my base in the safe shallows is dead XD
Crab Squid went completely mental and killed everything.

That happened to me too. I once had an ampeel, released it, and it came right back and killed me.

Also, was it true that you could actually tame a reaper? Just wondering

Not so much tame as momentarily distract. Reapers will happily take a peeper out of your hands instead of you, but unless you get out of their way pronto, the sheer size of their mandibles and jaws will cause you damage anyway. It's more an amusing little easter egg than a proper mechanic.

Right, as mentioned, swimming directly in front of a predator will cause them to reflexively bite regardless of their "allegiance", so to speak. When you newly release a captive one into the wild, chances are very high that it will spawn in such a way that you're located in the automatic bite zone. This has nothing to do with their aggro, and they shouldn't actively seek you out as prey (your vehicles never receive special treatment however, even when you're in them. They will still get attacked as per usual).

They will happily kill everything else though.

You know, Ampeels and Crabsquids are the only two creatures that can still do damage to you even after being raised in containment.

And that passive thing only works towards the player, not other creatures.
