I don't know, did he?

Nobody knows.
To be continued... ???

They probably shot him out of the sky like the Sunbeam because he just couldn't pay the 1 trillion credits.

Probably not, I mean how would he be able to. Unless you the player shoved a whole bunch of Ion Cubes (and Ion Batterys/Power Cells) in the rockets locker before you took off. I'm sure those things have to be a couple billion each at least.

Other than that, he probably wasn't able to return home, and most likely had to find a new home on a different planet (and possibly different solar system).

...

Yay, for happy endings! XD

So.... All good then.
Sounds like a damn good deal to me

If i am getting lore right, he will "pay". Even with "interest". Cause player will bring mutaded virus (or even mutate to Kharaa incubator).

The alien robot has got an interesting entry in its PDA:

"Assessment: Immobilize and return to Alterra for mutual profit"

I imagine Alterra would at least make me an interesting offer for this piece of tech. Oh, and also the fact that I managed to switch off alien quarantine cannon, effectively enabling acces to a planet full of alien tech and resources. How much is a planet wroth?

You are forgetting that this takes place in the future, and inflation has undoubtedly altered the value of the currency. The millions that is owed may be only a few dollars in our monetary terms. :steamhappy:

I am writing a huge story on what happened after the character escaped the planet. Could I use this as an "excuse" on how he paid his debt?
RCMidas Feb 28, 2021 @ 2:36pm
Anything goes in fan-fiction, you know that. But if you want the current canon future for the guy, as of Below Zero he's been sent back to the planet to work off his debt in some capacity or another. That may give you something to work with.

On a similar line, I wonder if Alterra's going to try to recoup some of that "debt" by merchandising Ryley's story the way they did Craig McGill's. Maybe a hypothetical future game will feature the protagonist's PDA helpfully prompting them to remember the time Ryley Robinson rode the jet stream of hydrothermal vent back to the surface after his oxygen tank malfunctioned in a corny attempt at motivation.

This, along with all the priceless information about alien intelligence and the virus that Ryley can bring back is far more valuable than any rocks he may have picked up.

I like the line at the end of the game, after all the PDA is just doing as it's programmed, but if BZ makes it canon that he's actually in debt and working it off... ehhh... Maybe they can make something funny of it but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense even with the Alterra mindset.

Pay off my debt? Are you kidding - not only did I pay it off, I was able to buy my way all the way onto the Alterra Board of Directors. I am in no small part (even if I say so myself) directly responsible for what Alterra has become!
