This was problematic back when save files could reach over 2 gigs each in size, and it would copy paste the entire save (including the screenshots folder). Brought to my attention quite rudely when my previous, smaller SSD had it stick around because it bugged out and didn't quietly delte itself when I closed the game.
While save files don't get as big as that anymore, if you are particuarly cramped for space on your OS drive I could see it still being an issue. As the save files while no longer "over 2 gigs" in potential, can still get up there compared to the average game.
The Dev commetntary about the phenomenon way back when, even when it was spitting out over 2 gigs into your OS drive every time you loaded your game was "People have big hard drives these days".
That's probably gonna the extent of any official tech support you get on the subject, if they ever give you any.
So alt tab or use windowed more to check that out during gameplay after you load up your save, for example. https://i.imgur.com/YneUvDO.png
Also clear your temp files just to be sure. Way back when, when I had the bugged out subnautica temp files, it dumped out the 2 gig copy into the users temp folder, and windows cleanup wouldn't erase it. So I had to throw CCleaner at it.
like so, https://i.imgur.com/MJqUMyu.jpg if things are working as intended, you should never see that sort of stuff in your users folder specifically.
EDIT: The "Don't make your OS drive stuggle to even live" advice is sound general advice as well. Which is why this was a much bigger deal (Despite the dev brush off) back when the save files were much larger.
"Didn't I used to have 6 gigs free instead of 2?.... Oh, subnautica is now taking up 4 gigs in temp data...Hmm, yes, clearly this is MY fault for not rushing out and replacing my OS drive"
Even with my new one that could install Subnautica a hundred times over on it, that would be some serious BS to try and blame shift onto the consumer.
infact, i beleive the maximum you'd want is right around 80% full
the response from microsoft employee describes the process, you should be able to delete the temp folder with no ill effects (its usually just used for temporary install files)
anywho, it might be a bit more advanced then what you want
but you could Reset windwos to Factory defaults, that should more or less wipe the drive, as you will have to go through the windows install process, redownload drivers that may be needed (network, display, ect)
so maybe look into that.... you probably have a bunch of junkware setup from whatever nefarious manufacturer you got
