Can you really kill off species?
So im building a base and i got these damn green cowfish just farting all over the place.

Im currently making a PRAWN, painting it solid red, giving it two torpeodo arms, and call it “Red Comet”, (bonus points if you know the refrence), and going to go on a killing spree to wipe them out of my area.

Question is, will this actually work or will they keep respawning, and its be wiser to move into a spot with less annoying life?

I had a feeling this was happening to bladder fish when I was farming them daily for water. Can't find many of them around my lifepod anymore but it could be coincidence.

Yes, certain fish can have their population lowered if you overfish or kill them. I think they might respawn, but incredibly slowly.

Good!

I've seen the bladderfish and peeperfish/regiald farms people do caues they dont want to kill off the population, but i wasnt sure if that was an immersive theme or legit.

So these farting cow fish have no purpose from what ive seen correct?

Gasopods can give you... gas pods. That's about it. If you kill the ones around your territory, there will probably be more in other locations, so it SHOULD be fine.

Food fish will respawn over time. Larger, egg-hatched fish (such as the gasopods you're having trouble with) do not (according to current knowledge and testing results).

However, torpedoes are incredibly poor at killing anything under normal circumstances, but are quite frankly incapable of killing gasopods. The reason for this is that vortex torpedoes deal no damage at all (only supplying a gravity implosion effect to momentarily stun/contain wildlife), and the damaging torpedoes utilize the excretions of the gasopod for their payload... Which the gasopod itself is naturally immune to.

If you can put up with the noise, gasopods are honestly some of the best critters to have around your base, as they won't actively try to damage any of your stuff, and are fairly proficient at discouraging roaming predators from staying in the area.

If you can't handle the noise, move somewhere else... Or just don't upgrade the PRAWN arms at all, and use the basic claws to punch them into submission.

KK my Gunda-i mean my PAWN is going to go wreck some gassfish then.

Oh really? I thought the Vortexpedos did like a damage over time.

Thats the only thing i gripe at about this game... The lack of "damage" you can do. Like at least give me a spear lol.

The industrial propulsion arm on the prawn suit will do short work of them. I had two undere my moon pool. They never came back. You can pick up any item and shoot it at your foes. Best item in game.

Eh, it's a game design choice. Story-related, too, as the fabricator doesn't let you craft weapons... Just 'tools' such as the knife.

Nope, only a pull effect.

The most you can hope for is that they catch something at just the right angle and gravity-sling it into another physics object, causing collision damage. This is incredibly unlikely to happen however.

A third option is to construct the PRAWN-mounted propulsion cannon, at which point you can just pick them up and fling them away to the other side of the safe shallows. Sometimes large animals manage to find their way back to their home patrol route, sometimes not so much.

EDIT: Aaaand Akrono comes out first with the PRAWNpulsion cannon suggestion...

May it swim 3 times faster than other PRAWNs!

Is it possible to infect a specie and spread them out causing them to infect those they interact with? lowering their population

It's possible for infections to spread in an alien containment, so it should theoretically be possible for the infection to spread outside as well... However, that's kinda the situation the planet's in to begin with, so it's doubtful you'll notice much difference.

Especially seeing as the disease actually does nothing; it's just a graphics effect.

You can just build a repulsion (not PROpulsion) cannon and move them away from your base. Easy.
