Because this has been brought up in a different thread almost daily since release.
You need to know because according to most sources they hold 2500 energy which would make them totally useless and "meh" compared to all other sources of power in the game. At 20k, it makes them the BEST power source in the game, as it should be, because it's by far the plant that requires the most rare mats to build and keep fueled.
People keep saying it's bad because of the incorrect wiki info... While in reality, it's awesome.
I have combination of nuke and solar, i hope nuke is on use only when solar cant do job (multiple cells on recharging).
Because a lot of wrong information is around the forum, I tested it myself. The wiki is outdated and as such people didn't know how much power one rod produced, so I made a little test.
Build one multi-room with a nuclear reactor and 2 cell chargers, nothing else. Put one nuclear rod in it and start it up to charge ion cells.
One ion cell holds 1k energy and you can charge exactly 20 ion cells before the nuclear rod is depleted with no leftover energy in the reactor itself.
That means one nuclear rod can produce 20k units of energy. This puts an end to the discussion. No more 'guessing', it is 20k and not more or less.
If a wiki editor is around here, please change the wiki.
Thanks for your patience and your interest.
Have two moonpools but both vehicles fully charged.
Batt/Cell Chargers but they weren't in use...
So all I could think of was medkit fab. That used 20k power for the single medkit it produced while I was away?
Or was that just "Running" power for lights and air?
It seems to last pretty long but the time to mine uranite is much longer than say acid shrooms...
Anyone know how the base power consumption works? And what each thing adds to it?
Maybe a bug, like i said, it took me 20 ion cells to drain one rod. Moonpool recharge the cell in moth/prawn, so that is a big drainer and cell and battery charger. Water filters use alot of power, but once they are full with 2 salt and 2 water they stop running. Scanner room might be your problem if you had it constantly running for hours, other then that i dont know what drained your rod.
Did you use ion cells/baterys or normal ones? because normal cells and batts only have 100 energy max, so it actually needs to be charged 200 times......thats alot of charges ;)
On topic i think that nuclear power is a bit useless in the game. By the time you can build it an keep it supplied with rods you should be able to build thermal power plants and those are absolutely free constant energy once built. And even a bio reactor is easyer just keep a alien contaiment with peppers :) closeby.
That was actually my way to drain the ion cells, still took me a few minutes until they were empty. but who does this in reality? btw, the sonat disables when you leave the steering weel.
