Are Bulkheads worth using?
Honest question. Are the Bulkheads worth using in an underwater base? I mean, I've heard they're used to prevent flooding in a base when it's damaged, but to me it only seems to slow you down openning and closing every door. Just genuinely curious if they're worth the time and resources to use.

I've never bothered with them. Given that everything in your base is impervious to water damage, I don't see the point.

Reinforcements provide a lot more protection. Flooding should never be a problem; if you're bulding something and the integrity goes below zero immediately right click to have the part you just built at 99% and that stops the problem. Go build a reinforcement and then finish building.

Wait, my base loses power when it floods. I think bulkheads would protect certain areas if others get damaged and water gets in, although I'm not sure what you have to protect to prevent power loss if you have external power like thermal plants. Time to experiment...

I'd have to look up the numbers again to be sure but from memory I'd say that bulkheads are the least effective of the 3 integrity increasing items. Some people like the way they look but if you dont want to keep opening/closing them then i'd say go with something more convenient

I alwasy build them just for the looks and because I like the animation of opening and closing them.

Both bulkheads and platforms are +3 and reinforcements are +7.

Also, bulkheads won't stop your base from flooding since breaches will appear on both sides of a bulkhead eventyally.

Sadly your whole base will flood, even with bulkheads. :/

Even when the bulk heads are closed? I mean if they are open then of course it's flooding. I never ever tried it out myself, but the games wiki says that when bulkheads are shut that they will stop the flooding, unless of course on the other side is a leak as well.

Your base only floods if the structural integrity is low and if it is breaches will start showing up in every room so bulkheads won't stop everything from flooding.

Yeah I know about the integrity, but I always keep my integrity above 0 of course so I never had a flooding. So if the integrity is too low then every single room will have a leak? That's kind of weird, but anyway. If you got a huge base with so much rooms that it takes forever to fix them all, then wouldn't bulk heads make sense since you can start fixing the rooms one by one and the bulk heads will make sure the rooms you fixed won't be flooded?

Actually I'm curious now. I will test this out on my other savegame's base.

hmmm, what if you punch it with the prawn? That's local damage and I would expect it to only leak from there.

Normally the integrity only goes down when you're building so unbuild the thing that broke the base and the leaks stop showing up. There's no reason to let it spread otherwise fixed rooms will open new breaches since the integrity problem is still not solved.

When flooding occurs from integrity < 0 then I think you have to fix a certain percentage of leaks to get the water to drain. You don't have to fix all the leaks, but most of them. I have noticed like the other person said, bad integrity causes damage all over the base. I don't know how bulkheads affect that.

From my experience it starts draining when there's only 1 leak left.

Wow, that's a low tolerance for leakage!
