If they would have just put clues to the locations of some things, that would have been fine. For example, like how they did clues with finding a couple of the lifepods and hints as to some technologies you could get in the recorded distress messages.
There are entire technologies (Swim-charge fins, scanner room, etc) that a new player would never know existed unless they get lucky and stumble across the fragments.
As for the sea treaders, I too would've never found them if I hadn't specifically heard about them and gone looking. As it is, it's quite amazing to see the 'path' they left. I build an entire observation pod by the Grand Reef side just to watch them walk by. :D
The Seamoth Sonar and Cyclops Sonar can pick them up far beyond what you can see normally so you could try using them
The others I'm not sure of. I found the one in the deep sparse reef once but there wasn't any really good landmarks or anything. The dunes is probably the easiest one to find.
I was kind of hoping they would be close to the archs or have a nearby escape pod but there really is no luck for that.
First thing I saw when I reached the bottom was a green glow, and I was like 'oh THAT was easy to spot... IF I'd been in the right place!'. So yeah. Flares. Flares everywhere.
