Cyclops is a burden!
Just got this giant sub, but fail to see the benefit. Getting constantly attacked by big beasts, 4 hits and its abandon ship. I can finish this game without cyclops I hope?

cyclop are useless, upgrade to max your seamoth and you can do all
morph113 Jan 31, 2018 @ 12:21pm
Were you going at slow speed and with silent running when they attacked? Because you should be almost invisible to creatures when in slow and silent running mode. And yes, the game is doable without it but having the cyclops makes it a lot easier. The cyclops is mainly for navigating the endgame biomes which have depts from 1000 to 1700 meters, far outside of reach for your seamoth. But you could also do it with the prawn. Or check out the other thread, it's possible even without any vehicles. But certainly the cyclops is best for navigating the deep endgame biomes.

the prawn can go as deep as the cyclops can. cyclops is nice for getting the prawn or seamoth to a safe location near where you want to do some exploration or resource gathering. you do have to learn how to safely travel in it though.

i mostly use it to haul a large number of resources around, like my current game where i've been loading it up with materials to build my new base

No you need the Cyclops. Seamoth can only go a max of 900M. You need to go town to 1400M minimum. The Cyclops and Prawn are capable of going byeond those depths.

Turn on silent running and go at slow speed and the beasties for the most part will leave you alone (as long as you don't run into them :3). The primary use for a Cyclops is the transportation of large amounts of resources (which you can't do with a Seamoth). It can also go deeper than a seamoth, so it's good for transporting a Prawn Suit to the Lost River and Lava zone.

Ah ok. I will try the silent mode in leviathan areas. And use seamoth whenever I can. Cheers guys.

the cyclops is extremely useful, try getting some of the upgrades and avoiding some areas with leviathans in if it's on low health.

Just a note, only turn on silent running when you absolutely need to. Leaving it on all the time will drastically drain your power.

Cyclops is a glorified PRAWN Taxi IMO. I only use it to take the PRAWN from my main base to my second base thats deeper, and even then I only built the Cyclops for the acheivement. Normally I don't even build it. You can compelte everything in the game just fine without it.

Oh, this kind of thread AGAIN.

I always scratch my head when I read stuff like this.
Slow speed and Silent Running or just turning off the engine for 20 seconds makes aggressive fauna lose interest.
There's also the shield module.
I haven't used any decoys in my playthrough, so I can't say anything about their usefulness.

So, that aside, I've built one, and I mean exactly ONE Cyclops, and went through the whole story with it. Now it's waiting for my return in front of the "last important building".
The AI states that it should be piloted by 3 or 4 people, but you CAN manage alone.
Quasi-Bad Jan 31, 2018 @ 12:30pm
I barely use silent running, because it drains power to fast, like way to fast, almost as fast as the shield.
Pro Tip, when you see a reaper, or a ghost leviathan, your best bet is to use the prawn, with a grapping hook and a fist. ( i seen this in a youtube video ), and while most people beleive that the reapers and leviathans cant die, thats not true, they tank alot of damage, but after like 200 prawn suit punches (if your grappled you can keep repeatedly punching), they will die.

And once they are dead, they are gone forever in that save, they dont spawn back.

The only time I hated the cyclops, is down in the lava zone when you got all those worms attaching to the sub and you cant do anything unless you have a shield, besides get out and hit them a couple times with a knife, watch them swim away, and then latch right back on 5 seconds later. But in that situation you can use a shield just by flicking it on it will knock everything off, but whenever i leave the cyclops down there( before 1.0 the thermal generator was useless, now it works, almost to good so this isnt a problem like it was before ) I would have to yank all the power cells out so when I came back the sub wasnt completely drained of energy.

Agreeing and adding on to what morph113 said. The Cyclops makes traversing the deeper parts of the game much easier. It allows you to take the PRAWN suit easily since that thing is slow as molasses to move around in. ZyPhr@™ is actually wrong. The max depth that the Seamoth can reach, with upgrades, is 900m and to finish the game with the best ending, meaning you cure the disease and build the ship, you need to reach the lowest depths of the game, which is far past 900m. Your Seamoth would literally be destroyed and you'd have to find a way back up to your bases, assuming you didn't build any in the lower areas, with just your Seaglide and trust me, that's not doable. I've tried it and I kept dying trying to reach my Seamoth that was stuck after I died near the Inactive Lava Zone.

Sure, you can build deep sea bases to "compensate", but that's a lot of materials, plus those bases can be attacked by large creatures still and in the Inactive Lava Zone, you can have these grubs latch onto your vehicles and bases and they will drain the power easily.

Best advice, do as morph113 suggested. Run silent and go slow. Sea Dragon Emperor's didn't even see me or care about me in it as long as I didn't get intentionally close by. Even when they did and only bumped into the ship, not attacked it, no damage, so all was good.

If you are really concerned, once you have the ability to make Ion Power Cells, make 6 for your Cyclops, get the shield and you'll have even more protection. You are literally invulnerable with it activated, but you won't really need it if you rig for silence and go the slowest possible speed. ;)

You can't beat the game without the Cyclops, however I achieved every task with an upgraded Seamoth and Prawn and built the Cyclops afterward.

Of course you can. Someone already finished the game without using any vehicles. And in the same thread we also established that technically you could beat the game without using any vehicles and without building any bases. It's doable.
