Thermal reactor effectiveness question
Does the efficency of the thermal reactor increase with temperature, I couldn't find this out anywhere. I was just wondering if I got more out of my themral generators placed lower into a vent than others placed higher up.

Short answer : Yes

is there like an optimal temperature or does power output just keep increasing?

imo the hotter, the better .... i always put mine way at the bottom of those vents.... The reactor also has a screen on it where you can see the temp. its at at that time...

the reactor change colors when hotter or colder, beign yellow not enough heat and green good heat

where do i have to put it for optimal temperature in my base at the lifepod?

It won't work unless your lifepod was placed right next to one of the lava geysers in the safe shallows.

The thermal plant won't generate any energy below 26 degrees, and it won't start to generate enough energy to meaningfully power a base until it's at about 50 degrees. The ranges, IMO:

25 and below: won't work
26-49: mostly ineffective
50-69: good enough to power a base
70+: very effective

I've put mine directly above the lava lake and only get these temperatures. While 69 being my lowest.
Never found any "green" spot yet. XD
Seems the area is riddled with different temperatures.

But well, 16 thermal plants with that range provide up to 4000 power quickly.
As soon as reached, it's pretty hard to counter that, even after intense fabricator sessions and water drinking. ^^

The hottest spot in the game world is the lava geysers in the Jellyshroom Cave. They'll get temperatures up to 105 degrees. It's bizarre that this is hotter than the literal lava in the deep ocean, but it is what it is.

You can build a network of a thermal plants down there and then run a few power transmitters to power any base in the grassy plateau (power transmitters have a range of 100m, so it doesn't take very many to get a signal to the surface).
