The Drill may deal surprisingly low damage, and the AI is so canned that even lava larva will swim directly into it in a gush of blood as they force their way through towards your prawn cockpit. But at least it consistently does it's job without needing to stop and craft consumables.
Comedy option is using a propulsion arm, and home alien containment raised crash fish as ammo stuffed into prawn storage. But they too deal surprisingly low damage for the effort involved. And unlike torpedoes which are worse in use, can't be restocked anywhere but a base with alien containment.
But when it comes to Warpers, a well-placed Vortex torpedo will send them flying across the map. A great way to get past the ones that are between you and your destination, without getting too close.
Same with seamoth, it's annoying to be obliged to be outside to change anything, especially in dangerous environment.
For me the point is that we should be able to change equipment of seamoth and prawn from inside for comfort as much as for security.
You might get bitten by a predator, but you aren't going to get insta-killed unless your health is really low. You should have plenty of time to get back into the vehicle.
I tend to jump out and repair my vehicles any time they drop below 80% integrity, even if the hostile is still in the area (Leviathans excepted). Things just don't move that fast in this game.
just drill your guys and move on most things won't bother you. For the big threats jump out and stasis them and then move on.
If you're on the ground shoot it in front of you until it gets you going really fast then let go and jump and you're moving twice the speed of any vehicle in the game. Not only is it good for covering ground quickly, you can escape any non-leviathan monster (or just dance around sandsharks).
In the lost river cave you can traverse the entire thing without touching the ground with the grapple; just momentum and accurate shots. This is also why I said "leviathan *mostly* excluded." When I first tried to get by the ghost leviathan near the giant fossil remains I tried to sneak by him.
I failed.
He charged me.
First instinct was to grapple him.
Hit him on the top of his back with grapple.
Pull myself above him before he hits me.
*whoopty whopped*
The look on his face when some sickly, skinny guy in an exosuit who was his next meal just gave him the bamboozling of his life.
For real though, to each their own. The prawn suit is the best thing in the whole game. Any attachment combo is bound to be useful in its own way. I personally love the grapple for it's versatility and movement speed. I wouldn't dismiss it so quickly.
