Some sort of map?
Is there a better way of figuring out where you are on the map without doing advanced trigonometery with the position of the Aurora and biomes?

There is an excellent mod that adds a map to your PDA. Look for Subnautica Map on nexus mods.
Its great, by default it only shows what you have allready discovered (like fog of war), and updates in real time.

you could use a mod which load the map up on webpage as your swimming if your using two screens?

Well, the whole point of the game is to explore, which is why the devs specifically said they would ommit a map. You just gotta explore, really

I'm a bit behind on this whole modding thing, but hey, you can use the map if you want

I think there should be a craftable mapping tool that shows already explored areas with all the Beacons and explred wrecks active. Resource nodes would also be nice.

Little hint:
There is a screenshot folder in the game files where all the pic you make with F11 are stored, these pics can be uploaded to any ingame picture frame...
Now, taking this in consideration, you "could" download a map image from the internet and copy it in that folder, then you can build a frame on your base or cyclops and load the image in there and voila, you got an ingame map.
Heck you can even access your pictures on your PDA... :D

umm, geee, yes, lets see, humanity is capable of drawing power from matter anti-matter reactions and create FTL gate travel network,
but they cant create software that maps nearby surroundings ?

pls

You're attempting to apply logic to a video game.

The developers intentionally left mapping out to contribute to the immersion of the game, rather than just have people looking at a map to see where they have and haven't explored.

The experience will be hugely changed by using the map mod. But I guess if you prefer easy exploration to experiencing the confusion of being lost on a deserted planet, have at it.

Scanner room is a 3D map; that said, a pity this isn't PDA-accessible when out and about..

i kinda want something that shows where you are, hard to use advanced trigonometery with Aurora and the suns position

@the7thguest - separate from the whole map/no map issue, I had absolutely no idea you could upload ingame screenshots into the picture frames like that - nifty trick, thanks.

Which folder is it located in?

Immersion ? Immersion is ruined when you do not have a map because it makes no sense not to have a geolocation ability in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ space age.
I can draw my own map, and what then ? Immersion ruined as soon as i put a few dots on paper ?

No matter, modders keep fixing games made by strange game designers since last few decades.
