You'll want a Power Transmitter to get it hooked up.
The Power Transmitter can connect a power generator to a base or to another transmitter up to 100m away.
But you'll need to build the first one fairly close to the power source.
You'll know it's close enough when you can seen the blue line between the Thermal Plant and the Transmitter as you find a place to build it.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know. It's hard to judge distance, it looked close enough to work...
As far as I can tell, there's no clear indicator when building a Thermal Plant or a Solar Panel that tells you if it will be able to connect to the base without a Power Transmitter.
So all we can do is make our best guess and add a Power Transmitter when it doesn't work.
I probably should. I moved it to a different geiser with one transmitter. It's at 60° now, just on the ground at the bottom of the volcano-like thing. I tried putting it almost on the edge of the ledge where the geiser in the pic is, but it still wouldn't connect. It seems the transmitters can be further away from the base than from the plant itself, which is weird. Anyway, it's working so I just need to make a few more, because more is more.
After that, it can transmit power to the closest base or other Transmitter within 100m.
