Scanner room placement?
Hello!

I have not been able to figure out the placement for buildings like the scanner room. In the habitat builder tool when I place somethng it lets me connect Multipurpose rooms, cordiors, etc etc really easily without actually building them so I can just fill it is as I go.

But it will not let me place the Scanner room anywhere unless it is away from the base. it doesn't want to connect to the actual building and will only let me place it several blocks away from the main structures.

Do I just need to build it first and then connect a coridor to it? Or is there something else that I am missing? I'm also having a simular issue with the Observatory.

I had the same issue just a few hours ago and it's kinda funny how the scanner room/any big placements are done. Basicly you need a ring of space around the scanner room (so no tight placing). It will automaticly connect (it will even form a little half tube to connect if needed).
Hope that made sense and there are a few older postings that have had the same issue.

Try rotating it (mousewheel) and playing with the distance from the room or corridor you're trying to connect. The connectors that the game places to connect scan rooms is longer than you would think it would be.

make sure it lines up with where a corridor can/would connect

Like FallenCat says, rotate it. There's one access point which needs to point to an available existing access point in your base. You'll notice a green corridor appearing when it's the right way. If the corridor is red then something is blocking either the scanner room (foundation, terrain, some other part of your base,...) or something is blocking the access point in the room you're trying to connect (locker, poster, plant pot, basically everything that you might have there, ...)

Consider also building a pipe-gateway first when you try placing a tricky room. Sure, it's not as compact but you'll get more room and an easier placement. The extra pipe will also allow you to put down extra two bulkheads giving you more hull integrity that can be spent towards building all those glass corridors and windows.

I'm a bit late to the party, but it cannot actually go on your foundations. That is the issue.

Yep, exactly the issue I'm having. Makes trying to have a nice symmetrical base impossible.
