Stasis gun + leviathan class = no work?

Note: terminology left vague to avoid spoilers.

So yesterday I got way too close for comfort with a very large creature in a fairly hot place.
I wasn't in the cyclops and when it happened.

I was close enough to start scanning it but couldn't finish the job.
I tried shooting at it with the stasis rifle but it's like the shot refused to connect.

Hitting such a large target shouldn't be this hard. I've been able to hit much smaller things without issue.

Is there something about leviathan class creatures that makes them immune to the stasis gun?

The Reaper Leviathan's body is unaffected by the Stasis Rifle; its head must be hit for it to take effect. - wiki
Actually, maybe the sea dragon tentacle is immune to the stasis rifle. Main body probably not.

I’ve actually seen others have issues using the stasis rifle on that very leviathan. I never tried it myself but maybe it doesn’t work on them, maybe a common bug, but you’re not the only one to experience this!

I think they’re referring to a different leviathan, or is this the case for all of them?

I don't see how you'd scan these big guys without putting them into stasis first.

I guess I'll try shooting it's weak point for massa damage.
I mean shooting its head for an effective stasis shot.

Now I need to test to see if the repulsion cannon will stun that leviathan the same way it does all others.
