Not sure what to do next..?
I don't know what my next mission is and the radio hasn't sent a message in days. Did I miss something that has to be done to continue the storyline? If so, is there a quest log? I am not even sure what the last radio transmission was.

the game also gives hints where to go via the pda not just the radio. it's time to start reading.

I think you should be able to find last radio transmisions at Voice log when u press TAB.
Read pda informations. Especially allien data and stuff about survivors. But its good idea to read everything.
Some other survivors lifepods are near important areas....so find them all when it comes to radio and never forgot to do proper exploring of nearby area.
When you are familiar with those areas and entries at your PDA, you should have no trouble to find out what to do next.

In addition to these suggestions, I want to add that you build and explore. You should be checking with your blueprints and see what you can build that you haven't, or what blueprints you need to get that aren't completed. Explore to find the blueprints and gather resources to build better tech. Sometimes doing this will help lead to new discoveries that will help drive the game.

Yeah... I would've had no idea what to do if I hadn't read a full step by step storyline spoiler on the wiki.

If you'er not sure what to do, go hit all the crashed pods you know the locations of. If there are some with only approximate locations, try to find those. What's the last thing you've done?

Better not to spoil your game, the radio messages sometimes take a lot of time inbetween. Sometimes they are triggered by you exploring a new area.

Your mission is to survive, but arent you curious how far you can go and what you can see ? Try it out and maybe events will unfold.

Most importantly, know that you can gather, scan, cut with a knife most objects in game, do that because you might find a new recipe (as stated by PDA, blueprints adapt to your surroundings, but system must know what your surroundings are).
Also you are able to go inside the big ship wrecks (something i thought was just nice art). With tools you can cut open doors later or fix broken doors to open them.

Thanks for the great input. What an outstanding community. I am off to explore, stab, cut, laser, and investigate. If none of that works, I can always cheat...LOL, j/k

try not to read to much of the story spoilers if possible just know that after the safe shallows your adventures will take you deeper and depper and even deeper underwater. once i left the aurora and built my exosuit. i packed up the base and moved to the koosh zone. and set up my main base its been months since ive been to the surface of the ocean. and i most likely will not return there for sometime. so. knowing that. checking out the island to the southwest of the aurora is probably something u should do and then from there a scanner room at your shallows base may allow you to scan for databoxes and locate the next part of the storyline that continues from the island. also u will find ur water filter down there too :)

my biggest issue with the game is that the developers removed the pings that guide you to the next part of the main story.
