How to Explore the Dunes Biome?
Would a cyclops with silent running do it, or do I need to use a P.R.A.W.N suit or even just sneak around in a seamoth?

Use Cyclops if need prawn, otherwise seamoth with perimeter defense system.

Just sneak about in a Seamoth with the Perimeter Defense System installed. That way if a Reaper does get frisky and latches on to you, just zap it. Tips: Make you've select the PDS and wait to zap after it latches on. Jump out and reapair any damage as soon as you can.

As others have suggestion, a seamoth with defense perimeter. I built a base by the edge of the grassy plateau and dunes where a reaper happens to swim around. The reaper hasn't really bothered me that much in my seamoth. And if it does get close, i just activate the defense.

Sneak with a seamoth. The perimeter defense is unnecessary when you properly sneak. Just crouch.

Oh wait, that's Skyrim. I don't think you can make your seamoth crouch. Better bring that defense system just in case.

A Cyclops with silent running and low speed would be nice, since the glacial pace you need to use to avoid becoming Reaper chow would necessitate food, water, and a place to store all the loot you find.

I don't like bringing Seamoths unattended into the Dunes for the simple reason that getting out to pick up stuff or explore wrecks runs the risk of the Reapers (PLURAL) playing Catch with your Seamoth.

Personally, i wouldnt take the cyclops in to the dunes biome, park up on the edge and then go for a stomp around it in the pawn suit. As there is little to none obstructive flora in the biome, walking around in the prawn suit is quite enjoyable. Seamoth is also very suitable.

I tried to kill a reaper at the edge of the dunes (near the mushroom forest) but it just wouldn't die. Reeeee.

It also just kept coming back for my cyclops, so I left after getting the wreck near the edge. It's a small one with a coffee machine (you find that bp somewhere else story related) so it's not really a spoiler.

Your prawn takes about 20% damage

is it hard to get away?

It can? Never try that before
Antarata Feb 28, 2018 @ 1:34am
No, it's hard for the reaper to get away. You just grapple it shouting "DIE SCUM"

Also the PRAWN suit is MEGA strong, something I found out the hard way in my first and last prod at the dunes biome at normal speed in normal mode in my cyclops. Lol

Simple: PRAWN suit + grapple arm + drill arm = reaper killer 9000

Also if you're out there for the wrecks then you might as well set up a scanner room. And if you have a scanner room then it can highlight the Reapers and show them on your HUD.
