Don't put upgrades in your Time Capsules.
This ruins the pacing of the game. I ended up abandoning my first playthrough because someone thought it would be nice to give me a Mk II Prawn Suit depth upgrade right off the bat. I ended up exploring so much of the map by the time I found the story cues that I couldn't even make sense of where I'd already been or not, or how to progress.

I've looked at other Time Capsule submissions that have Cyclops MK III depth upgrades as well as the Prawn suit upgrade, thermal reactor modules, etc. The only thing having these early does for you is allow you to complete the game in less than 5 hours. The only real pacing this game has is locking objectives to deeper and deeper depths. Remove that, and the whole experience goes sideways.

I'm all for quality of life Time Capsules, so getting things like Ion Batteries or Ion Power Cells is pretty awesome. Needing to replace the battery on my Seaglide 20% as often is great and doesn't remove anything from my experience. Having the equivalent of 10 power cells on my Cyclops instead of 6 just improves its effective range and usefulness without encouraging me to unknowingly skip natural progression.

Anyone else ♥♥♥♥♥♥ things in Time Capsules that kinda ruined progression for them?

You arn't required to use them, you know.
Most new players aren't going to throw out difficult to acquire upgrades. I didn't have the perspective at the time to realize what I was being given or how it was going to impact the game. I obviously don't use them anymore since I learned that lesson, but very few people are going to come into the game fresh knowing that these upgrades trivialize the entire experience.

I never found any time capsules, except once I want to test something in CREATIVE mode. So, yeah....
I find it amazing how many people trying to claim they are hardcore purists, can't comprend the idea of simpply not using what you find in time capsules if it's not to your tastes.

Even ignoring their nonexistant willpower, throwing a tantrum and demanding the toys be taken away from those who enjoy them is just childish at best.

It's easy to make grand proclemations that only water and fish be allowed in time capsules, form the saftey of victory.

So instead, prove you're actually hardcore by giving people what you don't need. Rather than mewling like a baby and bottling up your tears to put into your own time capsule.

They were all over the place for me! In all three of my games. Most of them were pretty weak in contents, some water here and there or a prized fish collection. I was just shocked to see a submission that included literally every end game upgrade. The need to find Nickel and Kyanite is what drives you to explore in the midgame. Without that need, the game becomes a sprint from waypoint to waypoint until you win.

Wow, you took my post really personally.

1) I didn't claim to be a hardcore purist, so I'm not sure where that notion came from.
2) I can comprehend the idea, now that I've beaten the game, but as a new player how is someone expected to know what will and will not provide them with a huge shortcut?
3) Your post is more childish and tantrum-like than the one you made it in response to.

You really changed your mind and thought this post wasn't salty enough without an edit? Did you get dumped today or something? Jesus. Sounds like you bottled up your tears just to put into this post.
Content's of Danson's timecapsule discovered.

A well used stillsuit.

Nah, that would actually be a useful find.

Nobody cares. Let people do what they want.
If you don't want it, vote down the time capsules on the site (it doesn't seem to do much, but you did your part). If you find one in the game, use it if you want it, toss it if you don't. The trash can exists. I got someone's tools I didn't want; I took the ion batteries out of them (I had just unlocked them and thought it was nice and convenient to have them) and threw the tools in a locker, never to be used.
I'll have you know I appreciate the ion batteries I got from some time capsules :P

I do too, in my post I specifically praised the inclusion of Ion tech in time capsules.
I kinda agree with this. Maybe there could be an option in the game settings to have them show or not. Or possibly limit what can be put in them.
I agree with Danson. New players aren't as principled as more experienced players are. Most if not all of them will want the best tools they can find, even if that means completing the game in less than an hour and spoiling everything. It isn't so much the matter of finding the time capsule itself we are criticizing but rather the mindset that wants the best advantage possible and doesn't care if that advantage was given to them rather than earned by themselves. In order to thwart that tendency, the only two things we can really do are 1) ask other players not to be ignorant of this tendency new players have, and 2) ask the site itself that distributes them to keep proper progression in mind when selecting which time capsules can be used.

Downvotes don't do anything, actually. Once they hit 10 upvotes, they are reviewed by devs and possibly included. Downvotes don't come into the equation. Again, I understand not using them, and practice it. I'm saying from a new player's perspective, it would be tough to determine whether or not something is giving you an advantage you'd rather not have. You don't learn that until after you've played for awhile.

I didn't say "remove them from the game", "only include food and water", or any of the nonsense posted above. I just figured I'd share my experience with them and maybe make people think twice about how "helpful" they're being by throwing all of the end game content into a box.
