For indoor ("land") plants, the lantern tree provides decent-ish power for very low maintenance and high yield. Marblemelons provide about 50% more power per fruit, but require more maintenance in the form of replanting. And while a single 2x2 planter pot can grow a maximum of 4 melons at a time, a lantern tree will produce about 20+ fruits using the same footprint.

For outdoor plants, it's mostly the same for pretty much everything... Gel sacks provide 100 power per each, but farming/harvesting/replanting large numbers of them can be a pain. Almost all other plants (and their seeds, which normally take up less space) provide 50 per each.


Live fish provide more power and take up little space for the power provided, but these are not plants.

If you're willing to get past the gross factor, the sea treaders provide an unlimited source of power... Just follow behind them and pick up thier... offerings. If the wiki is correct one 4X4 will give you 1k power. Alot more than any plant.

Once you start breeding Reginalds in the alien containment, they become endless too.

By the numbers I think the potatoe lasts the longest.

But I always liked the lantern tree as it's less maintenance (slightly). You can always pluck another 4 fruits and they will grow right back. The potatoes should do fine as well, though. You get more than 4 potatoes from a full batch and they grow back if you leave at least one.
