Is there reliable early way to dodge the exploding fish to get sulfur?
Tried for hours and can't figure out away apart from pure luck to not get hit by them early on

At the very start? Not without the terrain seriously favoring you. "LOL just U turn LOL" works most of the time, but not when you rond a corner and there is a crash fish pod right in front of you. "LOL just strafe!" doesn't help when there are multiple pods on either side.

A lot of the time it is rather easy, game the game can decide to screw you over.

Craft up some swim fins at minimum, remember you swim faster when not holding out any tools. Keep spare medkits on you.

The seaglie does not need sulfur, and while crafting more batteries is a pain before you can make a battery recharge inside a base, they give you a much easier time just U turning and outdistancing crash fish.

Though remember crash fish will follow you for an absurd amount of time. Don't stop until the explosion. Take it slow going into caves and keep your ears open for any that have spawned in ways that clip them through the terrain so you can't see them, but still leave them able to attack you.

Or maybe somebody will give you ass backwards advice to wait until you've built a propulsion cannon to shoot them with before unlocking the ability to repair your lifepod.

I've read that you should swim right at them as they are slow to turn which may give you enough time to put enough distance between you and the CF to avoid damage.

Personally, I've now keeping the practice of keeping plenty of med kits on my character, then I dump them if I haven't needed them when there is something I really need to collect since they are basically free from the lifepod just for the checking.

That's going to get you killed in many early game safe shallows caves that only have about 2 feet of vertical clerance.

Advice like "Just swim right at them!" is mostly given to sound cool, rather than any effectivness in many of the locations they spawn in. Or best case scenario, people having good luck with the game behaving itself all the time. But even the caves that are quite large, it's not a reliable tactic due to wonky results.

I suppose if tthey always worked as intended, they would crash against terrain like idiots when I'm pulling sick dodges. But I've watched plenty just slide along the walls and edges of caves to keep pursuing me. I get away from them no problem in those cases, but I get away because I know they are janky and poorly designed.

Relying on "Don't worry, they have trouble manuvering!" is going to lead to getting hit compared to simply running away until they explode sooner or later.

Not from any lack of skill on your part, but from the crash fish not working as advertised. "Hah! I circled around a rock pillar and they smashed into it-oh it's going to clip halfway through it and them keep chasing me like nothing happened after making a perfect U turn? That's.... not supposed to happen right?"

Nope. The crash fish has a wider turning circle than the Cyclops. If you swim past it it'll usually get stuck on the wall trying to turn around, at which point as long as you can put enough distance in you'll be unharmed (though it's worth noting it can destroy resources or send them flying). It won't work if the fish has enough room to turn around, so some of the larger caves or open water will tend to be less successful (although you'll take less damage the further you are from the explosion). It also depends on the angle the fish is approaching from, if you're going through the coral for example you'll usually find them coming at you from side passages in which case it won't work since they only need to complete a 90 degree turn rather than a full 180.
If you're not in the cave itself then swimming to put the cave walls between the fish and yourself will usually work, although that depends on the angle of the fish, terrain etc. If you're at the edge of their range (literally just at the point they'll pop out of the flower) you can usually outdistance them simply by swimming backwards, assuming you have flippers or (better) seaglide.

I usually bait them out from max distance and turn around a sharp corner of land, works pretty much every time. If there is no land to do that with then i always get hit by some degree. (fins only)

Maybe they could use a bit of a nerf so they aren't basically 99% chance to hit the player even if moving like 20 meters and around a corner or two. Maybe let them get knocked out by dropping a metal chunk on them

I'm too old at this stage of my life to be trying to sound cool. It does indeed work if you have the right circumstance. If the crash fish is at the end of a tunnel and there is no escape, I would not expect you to swim right at it as you've got no exit.

Swimming right past them is what worked the best for me, although you have to remind yourself to do that instead of the natural instinct of backing away. They don't seem to detonate on proximity but always after a set amount of time. Wait until it pops out of its nest and start to accelerate towards you, then swim right past it and don't stop until you hear it explode behind you. By that time you should be well out of its range.

The only time doing this can lead to more trouble if there happens to be another past the one you're dodging, but with a bit of time and room to pick a new direction quickly you might be able to still pull it off. I think so far the most I had was 3 chasing me at a time, and managed to dodge two of them this way.
