How come some things can't be fabricated even though i appear to have the blueprint?
Like for instance, i have the thermometer blueprint and yet i can't create it in the fabricator. Same with most of the Cyclops upgrades.

Seems you're using a save from before the 1.0 (and a few updates before) release? Thermometer and a buncha other things were removed, and the cyclops upgrades were remade, and some other things. Best to start a new save so you dont have BP's/items that really only exist in game to prevent fatal crashes from using older saves.

Also possible: You used the unlock all console command, same answer as above.

Cyclops upgrades are now made in a special fabricator on the cyclops. Some items have been move from/to the upgrade station so be sure to check all tabs in the normal fabricator for the item you want. Also as Shrenai said if your save is older than a few months you might want to consider starting over because the last two big patches changed and added a lot of stuff.

My cyclops fabricator is broken then since it only allows me to put things in there and not upgrade them. Yeah, looks like i need to restart a fresh game.

Er, Sounds like you're looking at the cyclops upgrade panel rather than the fabricator. From the front of the ship, through the left side door leading to the engine room, on the wall, is the fabricator. through the right side door, on the left by the engine is the upgrade panel (Where you place the upgrades for them to take effect)

Icon for thermometer is still listed, but it is removed item.
It confused me too, and I started from scratch on launch, so no save corruption.

Not a big deal, experimenting and figuring stuff out is half of fun.

I found it thanks, i've been playing this game too much, can't even think straight. So, my radio, is it mean't to go quiet? I think maybe it's telling me i need to explore a bit more, or...

There are now three fabricators, i think they should have merged them later on or something, get's kind of confusing.

Actually there is 5 fabricators (normal, modification station, cyclops on at the engine room, the one that can only go in the moonpool and the scanner room one)

There's one timed message, the rest are triggered once you explore certain areas / hit specific points in the game. IIRC it's usually in sequences of three (i.e. you get three pod locations to start, once you hit the next 'story point' you get the next three and so forth until you're done).

It's probably more straightforward without it to be honest :P
Basic tools and resources are made with the fabricator
Upgraded tools/modules are made in the upgrade station
Basic vehicle modules are made in the vehicle upgrade station (Cyclops being an exception; it has it's own fabricator on board, presumably because you can't dock it in a moon pool)
Room specific upgrades (so far only the Scanner Room) use the fabricator in the room itself

So as a basic rule of thumb, if the recipe uses only resources it's made in the Fabricator. If it's a module for a vehicle you use the vehicle upgrade station in the moon pool (or on the Cyclops for it's own modules). Anything which takes a basic module as part of the recipe (eg depth module mk II requires the Mk1 module) uses the upgrade station (including the Cyclops)..
