Scanning for shale

I need some diamonds but the scanning room i build does not give me the option to scan for shale outcroppings. Yes, I scrolled through noth pages on the scan list. Am I missing why I can't do that?

Probably not close enough, if you want diamonds they are extremely plentiful in the Mountain/Underwater island area

Have you already broken some before? And/or there may be none in range (Not sure which affects if it shows up)

It only shows what is in range. Build 4 extension to get max area and one chip for your visor to show them. It's borderline cheating, so easy to find what you looking for :)
