What is the storage on the rocket for?
On the rocket, there are storage compartments, allowing you to store quite a fair amount of items on the rocket.

What purpose does this serve?

The time capsule serves a purpose, but the storage cabinets have no use i can think of. Why would you put anything in there? You would have to do multiple trips to even fill those up, and for what reason?

For, I don't know, Dlc purpose? Or nothing at all.

There is literally no reason to use those at all. Takes too long to get to, to use for any storage purpose.

I was thinking about this as well. My best theory is that they were considering a NMS approach to the game lifecycle at one point, or perhaps DLC for the future; once you hit the phasegate after take off you crash land on another water planet but this time you have a few things in your life pod from before... like a cuddlefish egg and a toy rocket :)

There is also the concept of "New game plus" to consider. Think about it, you take off in your rocket, which creates a new game option with whatever items you can pack into those lockers. Storywise, your current character can either never reach the safety of space, setting up a ''wreck'' containing whatever you put in those lockers or simply just ''end the game'' and that's that.

Realism if a basic escape pod has storage for provisions then a escape rocket should have storage for food water etc, and besides the Alterra Corporation claims all found items belong to them so pack all the diamonds Ruby’s and alien tech you can for sale..........

The difference here is that realism does not play a part in this game much. The developers have always been about usefulness and accessibility. If something is useless or has limited use, they get rid of it. They have done this many, many times over.

I have 4 uranium in a storage locker on my ship. Uranium was removed because they wanted to simplify the recipe for making rods.

Knives used to have durability (i have a ton of blades now, just in case they made a way to repair their durability) and then they went and removed durability along with a knife that gave more durability than the standard one.

There is very little in the game that has little or no use.

Consistency, probably. Everything else has storage lockers, so why wouldn't the rocket?

Because they are 100% useless.

Gotta pay back Alterra for everything you used somehow.

Old topic, but I've actually used the storage before. I have playthroughs where I continued playing long after I could have finished the game, building bases in different biomes and such. In a couple of them, I placed the rocket out of sight in far off areas (for example, in one playthrough, I put the rocket over the Grand Reef on the far side of the floating island). I don't like being able to see it on the horizon.

I would use the rocket storage in that area for extra supplies and even dumped off stuff there a few times when my inventory was full. It's definitely not efficient, but it was actually kind of fun to do.
