The radiation SPREADS!

So, as any veteran can tell you, not fixing the aurora's reactor is not a big deal. It just means you need a rad suit to get close to the Aurora's wreck.

They would be wrong.

This playthrough I built my first habitat fairly close to the irradated area after the Aurora blew up, maybe 50-100ft from the radiation front. I didn't do anything about it, a few game days later, I was doing some gardening, and found the end of the garden area I'd buitl was irradiated... "maybe it glitched"

So I jumped back in my habitat... was fine. Then the radiation warning popped up again... I walked to the opposite of my habitat and it went away. Moments later the radiation warning appeared again.

The irradiated area expands over time as long as the core is not repairred!

I dunno what the maximum possible extent of the irridiation is, whether the expansion slows down or stops over time. But be warned!

Freaky. Needs more people testing.. but I wonder if it could reach the void on the other side 2Km away. What would be the range of radiation post day 600? 1200? etc.

There is a given radius to the spread, but it won't go as far as the shallows.

That does make sense. At least the game is nice enough to give you the radiation suit blueprint know, instead of you having to scrounge for it.

I kinda noticed this. Only went some 20 feet east of my life pod and ran into radiation, something around the 10th day or whatever. Definitely spreads, and it never used to until recently I think.

My life pod just so happened to be extremely close to the kelp forest by the ship, so yeah.

What threw me off guard about that Kelp Forest were the cries of a Reaper that I could spot very close to it. I have never seen one that close to the pod before!

Ah, yeah. That as well. The one at the rear of the ship can wander pretty darn close to the forest there, just at the edge of it. I think on the south-east side. Pretty unnerving early-game, as you might not be equipped to repel it.
