*also id be totally down for a late game mod that opens that case up after you shut down the gun so I can have some sweet, sweet revenge on those reaper leviatens without smashing up my mech*
"You want a gun in the game? Well now there is one".
As for getting revenge, real men do it with a stasis rifle and heated knife.
also while I can see the devs point about no traditional guns, they should have a wider variety of tools made from the local flora and fauna, like a harpoon or spear made from stalker teeth, or a air cannon that fires those jelly fish things that make the rocks float. as it stands its like your character is adverse to actually interacting with the landscape if it doesnt involve making shiny white replicator stuff.
This is what I thought, and I wouldn't be surprised at that. The description said there seems to be no way to open it.
The thought of that gun so close but so far...I have to give it to 'em.
meh, honestly it wouldent make alot of sense in universe to have standerd military firearms in really any capacity, given the fact this was a colonizing operation, and only the first wave at that. Id be ok with 2 types of ranged lethal weapons though, security small arms (pistols, semi auto rifles) that are found in a special area on the aurora and have extremley limited ammo (mainly becuase there is no way the fabricator would let a civilian operator fabricate bullets) and something like a harpoon gun made from bringing in a species and using it at the fabricator (kind of like how you get water bottles from the water sack fish)
also by having extremley low ammo it would keep the player from being reliant on it, and only using it to do something like escape a leviathen, or to quickly repulse a crab squid or warper
I wonder how long until they edit out mention of the survivors getting stalker teeth via knife fighting. We actually have knives, but as usual "No, see, it's LORE REASONS!" doesn't apply when it adds QoL, it's only trotted out when people want an excuse for missing options.
"Why no additional weapons?"
"BECAUSE THE LORE SAID SO!"
"The lore said I should look for a weapon, and that also my existing weapons should work better"
"Um, uh... **** your lore go back to CoD!"
Then you get into the whole song and dance about wanting a spear = want to be undersea rambo with a laser gun.
I do like the repulsion gun, and the theoretical prospect of the intended gameplay. But it's just not polished enough even now.
Nonlethal alternatives just remind you how buggy the game is, when you blast the same shark with a repulsion gun five times, and instead of unleashing they just come right back. And swim face first through an errupting geyser because that's the closest distance to biting you with theiir MMO trash mob AI.
The only time I ever try to kill stuff is when playing nice doesn't work as advertised. "I'd like to let you live while I build these thermal plants. Take the hint and let me have my nonviolent altertnative gameplay.... no? Okay, eat a drill I guess"
That's the main reason most people want more options. Because dead sharks are easier to get proper QA than "No, see, it will leave you alone after you shoot them with a torpedo. promise" just being a waste of materials a lot of the time.
A lot of the time they work as intended. Then they remember they are invincible and will return 5 seconds after you shoot them in the face with a repulsion gun sending them into orbit, or even a bunch of crash fish like nothing happened and keep spamming attacks and taunting you with their stasis rifle immunity no matter what you throw at them.
Just have them play voice clips of nonfuntional advice and you'd complete the experience. "Just stab them with the knife, that makes them run away" as they do donuts around your prawn suit.
