Seems like a good game for kids. What age & up would be suitable?
I've played this game a fair bit and I like it. It seems like this game could be good for kids. Non-violent, not too spooky, colourful & interesting. I'm thinking of getting the game for my friend's kid for a birthday. All I'm concerned with mostly is the level of complexity, not sure if it's appropriate. So, I'm looking for thoughts. I think by 12 it's absolutely appropriate, so would people say 7& up? 8? 10?

well its got a PEGI 7 rating, due to certain aspects of the game, possibly because of the jump scares and scary areas.

Give this to your kids if they are bad. Tell them the monsters are real.

Definitely older, 12 minimum. Everything lower than 500m could give little ones nightmares.

ESRB states it's an "E" rating (10+). I'd recommend sticking to that, because there is some really scary stuff. Even without a fear of what's under the ocean, the first time the kid runs into Sammy, he's going to dfinitely be shaken.

My nephew has been playing it since he was 10, which was 2 years ago. I know he loves it. I'd say 8-10 years would be a safe start.

I would say a lot of it depends on familiarity with FPS controls. If the same child plays Minecraft on PC, they they're probably already well suited to enjoying Subnautica.

Personally I would say 7 is probably a bit young. I could maybe see a 9-10 year old playing it, but they'd have to be pretty solid on FPS controls.

Its PEGI rating is 12, i wouldnt go anything below that especially for young children the game can be quite scary at times with lots of nightmare fuel.

Bah I guess I should have just looked at the rating. My friend's kid is nine, so maybe I'll aim for if Dad is gonna play it with them, it might be okay.

That's a good point. I know this youngster has been into the Minecraft for a year or two, so they're not going in cold turkey control wise.

I let my 8 year old daughter play creative (no hostile creatures). I would not let her see the deep stuff or play survival. It's fine if she just swims around the safe shallows and builds stuff. Of course I am watching the whole time too.

Crabsquids and the leviathans are probably the freakiest things you'll come across. Depending on the maturity level of the kid in question, sure I can see an 9/10-year-old playing this and enjoying it. Younger...kinda pushing the boat out a bit there. Mess around in Creative and stay above 400m for them, methinks. Remind them of it in a couple of years.

The safeshallows are fine for kids, but some biomes are extremely unnerving and downright scary. When in doubt, go find the bloodkelp zone and explore on from there (lost river, etc). Very very scary at times.

So keep your kids in the safe shallows, explore at your own PEGI 16 peril downwards.... ;-)

As long you don't go to the aurora, the mountain, the blood kelp, the deep reef, the lost river, the ILZ, the ALZ and absolutely not the dune, yes kids can play without issues I think
Maybe 12+
