Scanner Room Losing Options? Bug?
I'm not sure how or when this is happening, but over the course of the game, I've been losing the ability to scan for more and more items in my scanner room. I used to have 3 pages of things I could pick from to scan, now I'm down to one!

The only things I'm allowed to scan for is Data Box, Heat Area, Limestone chunk, Reefback, and Wreck...and that's it. what is going on here?

I had the same issue, my dude. Tried reconstructing it, didn't work.

I'm thinking I'll have to start again now. From what I can tell, I closed the game the other day, accidentally leaving the scanner room running (actively searching). When I opened the game yesterday, it was still scanning, and I only had one page of search options, as opposed to three.

Sorry to say it but we may just have to give up and start again.

This has happened to me multiple times. It's not permanent, but I don't know what causes it. The list just seems to come and go as it pleases. Happened multiple times last playthrough. I usually just go do something else for a bit and when I come back the list is different.

For that matter, I'm not sure what actually denotes what the scanner will scan for. The changing list implies that it just won't list things that aren't in the area, but that's just weird, like it already knows theres nothing there before you scan for it? Seems like it should be a static list of every searchable item every time, and you wouldn't know there's nothing there until you scan for it and get no results. Also I'm almost 100% sure that sometimes the list does not include things I know for a fact are in the area.

I'm chalking it up to one of the many game bugs left to squash.

Yeah, after posting this, I noticed the pages started to come back with more scanning options.

Isn't it you mining whatever the stuff is and over time they respawn/repopulate? That's how I understand it working.

I usually just pilot one of the camera drones around the general area, then "park" it back in it's little depression in the side of the scanner room.

Then, I get 2 and sometimes 3 pages of items to scan.

Just go up to the camera display, then you can control the cameras. Be aware of their power level,as the charge does drain as you fly around. Also, they are quite fragile, so try not to bump into a lot of objects.

This is just a guess but I would think you have depleted those resouces in the range of the scanner and won't show again till they respawn.

Same happened to me recently, so...

For the sake of science I am going to build a second scanner room in a different biome with different resources than the biome my original scanner room is located in.

I am going to share what I have discovered if I have discovered it sooner or later. Wish me luck!

So I build a 2nd scanner room.

My 2nd scanner room is located between the kelp forest and the south grand reef. The scanner now not only picks up the stuff that's around the original scanner like limestone, sandstone, scrap and quartz but it also picks up rubies, gel sacks and shale! So my theory is this:

The scanner room only picks up the stuff that's around it and if you build 2 separate scanner rooms, they will connect with each-other and scan both areas that they are in at the same time.

Not 100% sure this is true but so far, I am happy with the results.

Edit: (sorry for my terrible English)

Edit: Went back to original scanner room, it's not picking up rubies or shale, so they're not connected after all. Not really upset. The more you know.

Edit: Found out that you can look for two things at once! My original scanner room shows me locations of creature eggs and the other scanner shows me rubies! Pretty cool.

Scanner rooms can only 'find' resources that are in loaded cells (locations) near it. To get it to find more stuff, explore these areas with a camera drone or your self to load up the cells, then go back to the scanner room and try to scan for it again.

It didn't look like anyone really clearly covered this part, so just in case.....your scanner room's range is determined by your camera locations. The scanner doesn't work without them.

When you start the scanner it shows you what's in the scanner room range only. Run a scan for some ressources, this will activate the cameras and after some time you'll get more results and your pages of choices will go back from 1 to 3 (for example)

Hey, I was looking at this cuz the SAME thing happened. I immediately fixed it by using the camera drones for a bit and looking at certain objects that weren't there (e.g. Sandstone Chunk) and came back and it was there. :steamhappy: Hope this helps!
