I keep hoping this enormous squid grabs my leg from the blackness of the deadzone and drags me down and devours me.

No bottom. They'll just keep increasing the depth meter and displaying silt passing you by - it's pretty much nothingness so no fancy graphics to render. I went down to 10200 and got bored so I stopped going any deeper.

My guess the UI, and any graphics from a prawn suit you brought down with you, get's messed up by the game only being 32bit floating points.

Last I checked, you can go as far as you like. It's a void.

All I know is that there are Ghost Leviathans that stop players from venturing down there.

Technically, once you go past 3,100 meters, you reach the end of the game world and name of your location should change from the Void to something else. The terrain also ends at around that depth and you can acyually swim underneath everything.

Ghost leviathans, if you can outrun them, stop following you when you reach the bottom of the land mass, which is 3000 meters.

not even just save hop in a prawn suit and enjoy the ride (when it goes past its depth limit and is damaged hop out real quick it will keep falling for a bit then abrubtly stop in place don't actually touch it and wield it back together repeat

They followed me all the way up to the surface.

Yeah, I mean they hang out from 0 to 3000, so if you go deeper than 3000 they stop chasing you.

I hope they put an invisible barrier around the game world in v1.0 ...the fact that you can even go down there into the void is what creates the curiosity... and this, endless threads on the topic.
