Is PSVR a Possibility?
So Subnautica is a very fun game, and I want you to note, this is not a request. It is simply a question on whether or not it is planned. While I would like it to be implemented, it's a lot of work to implement and I just want to ask whether you have thought about this.

I notice you have almost confirmed a PS4 release of Subnautica. Well, not confirmed, but 'quite likely'. Now with Xbox One, this question need not be asked, but with PS4 it is a question that is very relevant. What is your standing on potentially adding PSVR support? I don't have a particularly powerful PC. I can play Subnautica on high at 55-60 FPS and a few stutters. That is not enough to play Subnautica in VR. However I do know a PS4 has more powerful hardware than my PC does, along with the fact that PSVR has a lower resolution (but more subpixels) which allow little difference in change of quality while still saving a lot of resources. I am sure PSVR has crossed the thoughts of a few people, and it's been asked by several people before with a lot saying 'I'd love it' and others saying 'It won't happen', but no official statements. Given the support of PC VR, I thought it would be a question to ask. I'd absolutely love the opportunity to play VR, and the PSVR HMD might be a good branch to try. If the devs don't respond, I would at least enjoy some community input for this topic.

I know currently the Devs can’t do anything with PS4 because of Sony’s policies about accepting early access titles. Like you said it seems as though Devs would like to get Subnautica to the PS4 but they would have to wait after the game hits 1.0.

I personally have been looking into getting the psvr. It has dropped down to $180.00 in my area and that’s affordable to me. I’ve always wanted to try Subnautica in any VR setting. The only thing that’s holding me back from getting any VR system at this point is motion sickness. The couple of times I tried the Vive I started feeling sick pretty quickly. I don’t want to spend/waste money on something I won’t be able to use.

Oh yeah, I checked the Trello and they have no ETA for PS4 (Which likely means if a PS4 release DOES happen, it will be several months away at the absolute least), which I'm fine with. I just know this is the only place I have seen the devs respond and I was hoping they would see this and provide their own input on allowing usage of PSVR.

As for PSVR, it has gotten very affordable recently and motion sickness is normal. You need to get your VR legs first (Like getting your sea legs. It sucks for the first few times, but you grow and adapt to it). However not all games cause motion sickness. In fact, a lot of them are very fun and require no motion at all (Job Simulator, Accounting+. There's more but those are the only two I have played). In comparison to the Vive, has some wins and losses on quality aspects, and there is no argument whatsoever that it is way more comfortable. I would recommend PSVR as a budget option (But some games require the move controllers which go for an additional $100 or so for two of them brand new). I think PSVR is a great opener into VR and is going to be what opens VR for the accessibility of the average consumer.

Kind of going on a long discussion here, but this is a place to talk so I'm gonna talk. Let's talk about the cost of the Vive. $600. That gives you two controllers, the base stations, and the HMD. How do we run it though? We need to get a computer that is capable. The minimum specs are quite high, as is to be expected. In fact, JUST the GPU is $300 extra added to that. Without even finishing the build, it would be at least $900. Now we look at PSVR. The console (Which is 100% required) is $400 for the pro edition and $300 for the slim edition. You can buy the Gran Turismo PSVR bundle (Which comes with everything that is required. The Playstation Camera, the PSVR headset, AND Gran Turismo Sport) for $300 at Wal-Mart.com. That is $700. Then you can choose to buy the PS Move controllers for more immersion at an additional $100. At the most with the pro edition of the console, that is $800. That is already cheaper than the Vive and JUST THE GPU for the PC. Overall PSVR is going to usher in the new generation of VR due to its plain affordability. With that maximum of $800 price tag, it's going to be the biggest introduction to VR for most people, and it still holds itself very well against the Vive (And it honestly completely tears the Oculus to shreds from my experiences with the three HMDs). Now I don't own a Vive but I will say it is superior in quality, but not by enough to make a few hundred dollar difference. The comfortability of the PSVR completely destroys every other HMD. I honestly forget I'm wearing it sometimes, while the Vive is very front-heavy. In my opinion from a PSVR user, go with PSVR (I know it's off-topic but it's still fun to talk about)

I agree. From the research I’ve done it’s seems as though the psvr is at least a good and affordable starting point for someone who would want to try VR. While my fiancé’s computer could most definitely handle the Vive, I just don’t want to drop that kind of money on it, at least not until I can get the motion sickness under control.

Devs may not be able to respond to this thread until after tomorrow/today because of the release but I hope they do. If Subnautica came to the psvr then that would definitely secure my decision to purchase the psvr and the PS4 copy of Subnautica.

With the launch they're pretty busy so I don't expect a response for a day or two at best, given if this thread is still alive. I currently have about 30 hours on Subnautica. If the devs added PSVR support, I would easily shell out another $30-60 JUST for the VR gameplay. I feel like VR could potentially help the experience to the extent that I would gladly buy it on PS4 if it could allow me to experience Subnautica in VR, as my PC cannot.
