I actually have no idea where to go from here.

I've built the sea moth. I've built the cyclopse. I have a small but cozy base going. I went inside the big alien canon thing. And that's about it. I tried getting in to the aurora but kept getting chased away by a giant serpent looking thing. Really spooky.

This is what my 17 hours of game have amounted to. Not really sure where to go now or what to work on.

I don't want to spoil anything because the reveal is pretty great but for a clue: go deeper.

If you build some stuff, you will get some radio messages with beacons or radio locations. Go there and see what is what. But fix the Aurora radiation leak first, you can get past the monsters by sneaking and staying near the side. Don't go without the radiation suit.

Yeah, I've done all that. Got stabbed in the arm, said it couldn't accept me. I took that to mean come back later.

Yeah, I've done all that. Got stabbed in the arm, said it couldn't accept me. I took that to mean come back later.

Do a self scan to advance the story, learn more about why it won't accept you. On attempt to deactivate, you should have gotten coordinates to another base.

That's the Reaper Leviathan. Stay on the surface with the seamoth while you approach the Aurora and you'll be fine.

each place you find has stuff to discover that will lead you further on in the story. the alien structure gives you a problem you need to solve, the floating island gives you a trail to follow

It is important to go to all the crashed vessels you get emergency calls from. You usually find PDAs there with infos and hints what to do next. Usually you also find wreck parts on your way to these locations where you can scan for new building parts.
But basically: read the PDAs.

If you don't care for the PDAs or the story, the next area for you to progress in is most easily found by looking around the crashed pod at 500m.
