Is there a way to lower graphics settings before opening the game?
My computer has specific problems when it comes to running games, despite that it's actually a very powerful machine.

I found that I WAS able to run Subnautica on its lowest settings, but when I changed the settings to high, it immediately caused my computer to reboot. Now, my computer reboots every time I open the game, so I can't even change the graphics settings.

It's already in windowed mode, and all I need is to change teh graphics to "Low", is there a command or something I can do to change these graphics settings before opening the game?

Again I'd like to stress that this is an issue with MY computer, not the game (it happens with other games, been troubleshooting this for months and still no idea why this is happening), so I'm not looking for solutions as to how to solve the rebooting, I just want to set the graphics to "low" since that was actually successful in working the first time.

You should be able to reset the options.
If steam (and subnautica) are in the usual place, this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames\options

has options.bin

Deleting this SHOULD put it back to the default settings it had the first time you started it.

I guess your power supply is dying. You should really consider checking it or replacing it right away, because a faulty power supply "CAN" kill some of your hardware in the worst case.

Game starts -> hardware requires power, PSU cannot provide it, PC reboots.

Besides, a PSU should not be pushed to its limit and proper power supplies are not very expensive.

Yeah I have a warranty and have been meaning to order a repair, it's just the last time I did order a repair they literally claimed that they could not replicate the problem. And that was two weeks of waiting, which means I couldn't do efficient work for two weeks (work at home on the desktop). So it's just an annoyance all around..

I would replace it myself but sadly I'm just not confident with computer parts whatsoever.

Deleting that file only seems to have set the default graphics for high quality and fullscreen mode, unfortunately.

That's unfortunate. Sorry, that was the best I had.

Thanks for the attempt! :)

Replacing a powersupply is really easy. Practically removing a couple of cable plugs and then removing 4 screws, to remove the PSU from the case. Most PC building stuff these days has become beginners proof.
You could try finding your way into that. There are many Youtube videos out there, for example by Linus tech tipps, that show you how to do it. Maybe you should watch one of these, just to see how easy it is. Also these days it is hardly possible to break anything.

Power supply issues most of the time are hard to replicate.

If you want, you can add me. Then you can tell me an email-address and I can send you a config file with everything set to minimum.

I actually got Subnautic to run for a little while, long enough to lower the graphics and everything.
It didn't seem to stop a reboot when loading my game file though, so the ball continues to be in my court.

I'll look into the powersupply change and stuff. I'd also need to make sure I get the right PSU and junk. Thanks

I'm with Ritchey on the power supply. Had this happen to me twice with no warnings. Back in the day my computer would run fine in windows, soon as there was load on the GPU and power being drawn, the PC would just die. New power supply fixed it immediately. Like Ritchey said it's really easy to replace. Good luck.

I remember having problems with my old PC from 2007 rebooting at random and that looked like a faulty PSU at first (cooling fan was spinning up really fast right before the shutdown-reboot routine), although it wasn't happening necessarily under CPU/GPU heavy load.
Weirdly, the issue was fixed by updating BIOS for the motherboard to its latest version and PC was working like a charm since then (my nephews are still using it)

A PC not booting is a different situation. Not getting past POST is mostly related to Bios / Mainboard issues. Sure it can be related to the PSU aswell, but as I said, it is not entirely comparable to the thread creator's issues.

I said "reboots" not "not getting past POST" - where did you even get that?

Just ask them to upgrade the PSU, then you won't have any issues in them not being able to replicate the fault. Yes it own't be covered by warrantee then, but the stock PSU in the computer may have been insufficient to start with.
Obviously PSU might not be the issue, but the fact it happens when starting games on high settings does make it sound like that.
