Where should my "Main Base" be?
Alright so I've only been playing for around 6 hours. I'm really looking forward to playing around more with the base building, and I'd love to make something really big and fun. I plan on having very tiny bases scattered here and there throughout different biomes. But if I had a main base of operations, what biome might be the most ideal?

Main base at one of the Geysers in the Safe Shallows
Unlimited thermal energy and you're central to every location, every biome and any smaller bases you make

Just don't build in (or into) the safe shallows. On the edge is fine, but without giving to much away as the game goes on you'll be glad you had that deeper water near by.

Oh and if you build to close (or in) the kelp forests (green places) the stalkers will run off with your camera drones. Every. Dam. Time.

One person saying build in the shallows, and another person saying not to.

I sya do it because it's a convenient location since you have easy thermal energy, no predators and you're close to every biome
Difficulty is finding a good spot in the Safe Shallows: somewhere wide and deep enough for your base (which could grow to be huge) and your Cyclops (easy navigation is essential)

Some people prefer building on the edge of the Shallows and another biome (Grassy, Kelp) since they have resources not found or not abundant in the Shallows; best of both worlds
Others just build at places close to the story objectives

It really doesn’t matter because as you progress you are probably going to have multiple bases throughout each biome.

My best advice to a new player would be to not get crazy with base building. Stockpile your resources and make simple 1-2 room bases in each biome(like you said, scattered) And put beacons near them so you can find them later.

As far as the scanner room if you are near any kelp forests keep your drones in a locker until you want to use them.

I’ve personally never built a huge main base because I find it better to have multiple little ones but I would say make a main one on a border between the safe shallows and any other biome. Somewhere with a good drop off cliff for a moon pool and what not.

I like to build a base on the border of the Safe Shallows and the Kelp Forest with lots of observation bubbles and glass, because I just love the green light and the way it looks at night.

I definitely agree with the suggestion to build near one of the themal geysers in the safe shallows.
I have my main base next to the thermal geyser that is almost directly south of your starting pod (the Aurora kinda points north if you don't have access to the compass yet). Great location with the thermal energy, next to kelp forest, and very close to grassy plains.

I usually build my main base close to the pod. as others have said, make sure you have deep water very close by that you can bring the cyclops close to the base. Also put beacons at the point where you'd want to approach the base from so you dont accidentally come from a bad angle/side and get stuck.

I often build to the left of the Alien ruins about 250m deep. I found a great spot with thermals, eatable fish swimming around and tons of scrap and rocks to mine. I mainly build my base floating in the open water with tons of structure upgrades with lithium so it wouldn't flood. It's suprisingly a ginormous area, you could get a full grasp how big it is if you had 4 range upgrades for the scanner room where my base is. Lots of rare ores too

Am I the only one that doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about the camera drones? :3

I built my base at the borders of the southeast kelp forest and grassy plateaus. Power can be drawn from sufficient sunlight above and volcanic craters in the jelly shroom caves almost right below the kelp forest cliffs. Bioreactors are fine as well with the abundance of flora and fauna in the forest and safe shallows uo north. With the sparse and grand reef in the south, I can get all the basic raw materials without having to travel too far from my base.

Build it in whatever biome you find most interesting.

One person saying build in the shallows, and another person saying not to.

Both are really saying to build in the shallows, but more towards the edge because you can have problems later when crafting the big sub (it's really big...) and more deep=more space to expand your base, also.

I tend to build towards one of the Kelp forests, just not too near.

Oh, and later on you can move your base to a geyser or make forward bases in some other key biomes.

nope, I could give less of a ♥♥♥♥ about them, why would I need them. I can just go out and look myself.
