The one way I always enter is near the exploded front of the ship. The water goes right up to an area you can walk on, and there should be a handful of 4-legged critters running around and nibbling at your ankles. Head upwards and you'll find some supply crates, a fire extinguisher, and a doorway on fire that you go through.
Bring a repair tool and laser cutter, too. You'll need them if you want to explore everything inside.
Stick to the front left side. There s a giant hole you can drive a cyclops through and then ramps inside (collapsed ship decks) you can use to climb up towards openings into the hull. (having a propulsion cannon is a plus and can open a shortcut, if you can spare the 4 inv slots to carry it).
As said, come prepared. Bring a scanner, repair tool and laser cutter so you can (almost ) fully explore it all in one trip. You'll probably find enough food and water on the trek in if you plan to take enough time to hit all the small storage bins in the shallows on the way in along the northern side of the ship, otherwise, bring 8+ small waters and 6+ salted fish with you so that you have time to explore and repair the ship's drive cores.
I've had that go badly on 2 HC playthroughs now where I got unlucky and ended up with almost all batteries and cells from the crates and had to bail and come back. Also something to be said for leaving some of the nutrient bars when they do pop in chests for when you'll inevitably come back for the captain's cabin. (water should be covered by then with rec suit, filtration and moth storage).
I'm also trying to reminisce/remember about how long it took to explore and repair the cores my first time. It was certainly not the 15 mins in and out I can blaze through now that I know the whole layout by heart.
