ANALYSIS COMPLETE: Gasopod torpedos vs Leviathan
I have made it somewhat of a hobby of mine to kill Leviathans (reapers + leviathans). My typical death dealing apparatus is a stasis rifle and a thermoblade, but I decided to mix it up. Iin my umpteenth playthrough, I decided to play with Gasopod torpedoes!

I can confirm that you can kill a full adult reaper with 12 torpedoes.

I used the Seamoth and a stasis rifle. I lock the reaper in place with the stasis rifle, hop into the seamoth, arm and shoot a torpedo, exit the seamoth and lock him back up with the stasis rifle. Rinse and repeat 12 times (the torpedo bay only carries 6, so you need to have 6 or more in your inventory so you can reload half way through)

Note: I am not responsible for your or your seamoths' death or destruction. It is not an exact science of luring and shooting. Many times, the stasis rifle may not connect, but the reapers teeth and appendages will. So carry several medical bandages and have your repair tool on your hotbar b/c you can repair the seamoth while it is being crushed in the reaper's teeth.

Have fun hunting!

Sooo... 264, if each hits their target, North Korean-manufactured rockets to slay all 22 Reaper Leviathans?

Interesting.

Way too much work. Just use the gas orbs. Easy. You need 20 for a normal reaper and about 30-35 for a ghost leviatan.
Just stun them, swim up to them and toss them right into their face.

Enjoy your saved time and recources ;)

I had always assumed these didn't stack. Boy was I wrong. Thanks for the tips!

In my limited experimentation (My avail subject supply is rapidly diminishing), I was able to kill a reaper with 18. I haven't tried a ghost yet. I don't think there are any left. I may have to try that on a subsequent play through ;-)

So where do you find these gas orbs? I`m new to the game and would really like to kill some Reapers.

The green manatees that have all these yellow dots on them...if you brush up against them, they emit all these yellow orbs that will turn into gas that will kill you, but you can collect them before they turn into gas.

Don't forget you also need a stasis rifle to hold your prey immobile while you apply (drop from inventory) the gas pods. That's a bit more difficult to find the blue prints for.

Awesome. I`ve got the stasis rifle and those manatees are easy to find. Thanks for the help. Time to go hunting.

So where do you find these gas orbs?
They are dropped from Gasopods upon being provoked. Gasopods are most commonly found in shallow waters, such as the Safe Shallows. When they ARE provoked, they'll immediately dispense roughly eight Gas Pods, which will promptly explode approximately five seconds later, releasing a medium amount of harmful acid in its immediate vicinity.

If you somehow managed to grab a few Gas Pods before the inevitable explosion, you can access the Vehicle Upgrade Console (inside a Moonpool) and combine your hard-earned Gas Pods with some basic Titanium to craft two Gas Torpedoes.

Gasopods take around thirty seconds to recharge its unique ability, at which point it can fire more underwater acidic IEDs.

The best way to collect these gas orbs is to stun the gasopod with a charged shot from the stasisrifle, then approach from behind, so they won´t see you and when you are close briefly go the the front and right back to its tail, it will now drop all orbs in one spot and you can collect all of them within seconds without having a single one go off.

Don´t make torpedos, they are not worth it, just charge and stun the reaper and drop 18-20 of these gasorbs right into its face and have a good laugh while it dies in about 5 seconds.

Hope that helps.

Cheers ;)

I`ve been killing some Reapers thanks to everyones help and I got to say those things are terrifying even after you kill them. They always got that creepy smile on their face. Then they slowly sink back into the darkness of the depths below. Always smiling. It makes me wonder what the Reaper is thinking about. Does it know something I don`t? Anyways I`m glad these Subnautica threads are mostly positive. Its refreshing.

Use the propulsion cannon to collect the gas orbs. It grabs them and you can inventory them the same way you do with the fish you collect using the PC.

I thought Leviathans don`t respawn? I`ve killed the one behind the giant ship 3 times now. Its near the back of the ship right next to the thrusters in the brown water area. None of the other Reapers seem to respawn except this one.

They don ´t respawn, but there are more than one at the aurora. I think it´s 3 or 4 reapers there.

Really? I guess I`ll just keep killing them. I swear it seems like the same exact spot where I killed the previous one. Right behind the ships boosters. Sorta close to the lifepod in the shallows.

100% no. Leviatans as well as all predators the size of sharks and bigger don´t repawn.
There are about 22 reapers on the map ;) I tested it and killed them all two playthroughs ago and not a single one has respawned.

What does have more damage -- one gas orb or two gas torpedoes out of it?
Does orbs' damage stack? Does gas torpedoes' damage stack?
Does gas affect on Ghost, Dragon and Warper?
