So... Saving Sunbeam? [Spoiler question]

I know I can't catch a ride but I just don't want to see it blow up.

I've started a new game and so far haven't listened to the Radio once.
Is that how I do it?

Keep away from the radio and don't touch it till I cure myself and turn off the weapon?

Listen to the distress calls on the radio until you receive the" I'm sorry I didn't know".... "we're scanning for a place to park" from the Sunberam.
Then leave the radio alone for about one to two hours.
Then go back to the radio.
You'll get all the distress calls up to lifepod 2.
There should only be one message remaining, from the Sunbeam, and it'll set the time sequence for the Sunbeam landing.
I've had this happen on the last two playthroughs.

Yeah, I don't like that one. I feel in story terms there's now way to complete the store fast enough to get the Sunbeam before it flies away. It may be like that in game, but it just doesn't fit into the story for me. I don't think the Sunbeam would wait days and days and days up there just for you to disable the gun to go down. It's kinda a cheap game win.

Pretty sure I did.
I didn't use any Mods at all when playing.
[Was simply making a comment on that particular mod.]

I cured myself and launched the rocket.

Just happened to launch it before the Sunbeam got exploded.

Isn't that... the "actual" ending?

Played the game again without repairing or building a radio until I disabled the gun. Build a radio on day 56, got a message from sunbeam on day 64:

"Aurora suvivors, this is trading ship Sunbeam. We've tracked your dristress singal, but your ship's left a substantail debris field up in orbit, we can't attempt a landing. we're gonna have to head home. We'll send our data to Alterra as soon as we can. Hold on in there. Sunbeam, out."

On day 62, I already got the message of alterra HQ with code for captain's quarters.

What about Sunbeam mining in the system and you fly up to meet them for your rescue or something?

I dunno.... I just like happy endings and this kinda seems bleh.
