Trying to run it at 1680x1050
I drilled down to the executable path, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Subnautica\Subnautica.exe. When I launched Subnautica from that path, I got an error that the video resolution could not be changed.
I right-clicked subnautica.exe and opened Properties. I went to the Compatibility tab and put a checkmark in "Disable fullscreen optimizations". I clicked Apply and closed the properties window. Subnautica launched properly after that, even from the Steam library menu.
It's worth a try. You can always just take the checkmark back out without harm if it doesn't work.
As nice as the music for the game is, I would like to be able to play it again.
Specs same as before.
Sadly it didn't work for me. I tried almost every start option without success.
Go to nvidia control panel --> adjust desktop size --> select the option "no scaling"
How will I ever see Peepers now!? :(
Wow, that's a really old fix for stuff opening, but opening off-screen.
It's still just opening to a black screen, blue cursor, and background music. The cursor moves fine, there's just nothing else there.
I don't understand. I've played over 70 hours previously, and having to upgrade my computer would make this game stupidly expensive. I shouldn't have to be some sort of programming genius to make a game run. It's not even early access any more.
Maybe in a few years time when I can afford another computer it will be old enough they'll have worked it out.
Unless this is fixed in the meantime then I'm afraid it will be farewell Subnautica, I will miss you. :(
This worked for me (also solved the same problem i was having with Tacoma). Thanks a bunch.
