Previously (pre-Precursor update), they seemed to leave you alone unless you were in a vehicle. One swam right past me - within arm's reach - very late game and never did anything. First time I went past one in a vehicle, BAMF.
I'd also expect them to attack you on approaching the various Precursor facilities, especially the Grand Reef base. That's my biggest worry, actually. That getting in and out of there with whatever you need to do could be all but impossible with nigh-unkillable teleporting baddies with a freaking ranged attack and summoned friends hounding you.
This could explain it, don't remember them being there before I interacted with the array terminal.
One of them took a whack at me because I literally swam into it due to being blind af (lol). I jumped and stabbed it with my survival knife so it teleported away. I was near the laser array and hadn't figured out I'm infected yet. So yeah.
Anyone have an idea to scare them away so i can explore the area where they patrol?
I know there are no weapons but this warpers are like a content blocker and i can scare away other creatures. There should be a method to scare them away for a while or simple the shouldnt be able to teleport you out of a seamoth or PAWN!
That seemed to kick it off for me.
But, I never found them to be a threat. They didn't aggro to me unless I got really close to them, and when they did they swam slow, fired a blast that was easy to dodge, and warped in "pets" that quickly turned on them.
eg: a warper down in the blood kelp zone warped in a shocker... that quickly turned on him and started attacking him... I just sat there and watched while laughing and feeling sorry for the poor guy.
They may change this later, though. Warpers may become a major threat later on. They may just letting them be a bit idle for now to see if any bugs crop up.
They can't? damnit...
Depends on the area. On paper (as I haven't tested any of this), the best you could reasonably do is pin them down with the Stasis Rifle long enough to get out of their line of sight. Any damage causes them to teleport away (even from inside Stasis), and presumably they can pre-emptively dodge any projectiles like torpedoes or Propulsion Cannon shots. You're supposed to also be able to carry Carar-infested fish that are supposed to act as lures / distraction to them... but I would imagine they kill leprous Peepers pretty quick, not buying you much time. Maybe you have to breed Carar-infested Sandsharks or the like.
If I found an enclosed space "guarded" by one I guess my fallback would be to try (and likely fail) to use a small-enough-diameter Stasis bubble to give just enough time to shoot a Crash at it with the Propulsion Cannon while frozen, hopefully hitting just as the bubble collapses so that it actually takes damage. Sounds really difficult, however. People say they Stasis the things all the time, but I don't see why they wouldn't just teleport away.
