it's not so much the bad flood lights as the contrasting lights in the cyclops room with the blackness of deep sea where the sun can't reach. even with the lights dimmed on the console it isn't enough, i almost always pilot by the underhull camera facing the ground near the front because there is no light glare from the bridge lights and the flood light is just adequate enough to see things around me atthat distance, but as i mentioned it is "adequate", the light could be expanded on and lengthened so i can see at a greater distance in the dark sea. additionally if the cameras had filters installed that can give a representation so typical lighting is not needed and you can see everything on the camera like night vision or thermal vision.
This is after all a game based on technology in the future. things like this should be accounted for.
if it were that foreign, you wouldn't be able to find a said compass in a wrecked lifepod in the grassy plateau or even the compass blueprint show up when you collect a certain mineral around the mountain island area. it exists, but like so many other QoL features, you got to find them.
