How far are you into the storyline? Have you seen what's on the mountian island?

Explore the ocean. Start looking for blueprints for different items/base upgrades. Scan all wildlife and put it in your alien containment room.

No, I haven't even gotten there yet. I have been getting some messages from the Sun-Beam, the most recent one that I got said that they are half-way to the Mountain island.

Pretty soon you'll get a message saying that the Sunbeam has almost arrived, and you'll get a timer and a set of coords that go to the mountain island. If you want to get there before then, try going west from your pod. The mountain island is pretty important, so you'll want to go there sooner or later.

Game's just beginning when you get the Seamoth. :)

Have you built your base yet? By the time I made a Seamoth and got to the Sunbeam portion of the storyline, I was just starting to get the good blueprints. You'll get the moonpool (Seamoth/PRAWN docking port,) then you get the PRAWN, and finally the Cyclops.

With the Cyclops, you get to explore to your heart's content!

I got the cyclops and I havent got the moonpool design yet.

After getting the seamoth.
Go back to previous beacons/pods and fully explore them with the lasercutter and repair tool.
Explore the Aurora.

Without moonpool (and its upgrade station).. you get 3 problems with seamoth...

1) depth
2) power
3) storage

So, seamoth is more for distant exploration (mostly to go wreck diving and try to find new craftable fragments) when you first make it rather then deep-dive exploration.

Craft a couple of power cells to recharge it as needed, craft about 3 more air tanks for your inventory, and keep the seaglide (the seaglide is good for hauling you around when you're stuck with basic fins and loaded down with 4 air tanks...good for moving you through old wrecks quickly).

Then use the seamoth to head way out into areas to look for wrecks to explore ... red grass areas ... stalker kelp areas ... aurora ... mushroom forests ... etc.

The seamoth can take a beating, so you can park it in areas where sharks would normally be eating you alive, and just sit in it while they don't do squat except bump into you. This lets you explore shallow, hazerdous areas.

Seamoth also acts as an oxygen refill station. So, you see a wreck, scout around for an opening, then park it (with lights on) near the opening. Then you head inside to find fragments. The seamoth's lights help you find your way out. Swim normally around looking for stuff to scan, but when it's time to head back, whip out your seaglide and it helps speed up your egress. Then you get into your seamoth to refill on air, and perhaps eat/drink and read up on anything PDA's you found.

Exit, wash-rinse-repeat until you've sacked the wreck.

If you really lke a challenge, you can even use the seamoth to explore deeper wrecks...

eg: I went to the Grand Reef, and parked the seamoth just above it's crush depth right above the wreck down there with it's lights on to light up the wreck. Then I swam straight down to the wreck. It took me several trips back-n-forth, but I sacked that wreck using this method... seamoth acted like an air fill station.

So, if you get creative, you can find ways to use your seamoth like a portable air fill station and protective cover from creatures.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can also use it for resource gathering long-distance. EG: I usually use it to make my first lithium haul from the mushroom forest near aurora. I empty my inventory of most stuff, then just seamoth over there and grab as much crap as I can.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

With the seamoth's modest power consumption, you can usually make several trips around before having to swap the power cell. And, by then, you may have found the moonpool and gotten a proper base up and going.

Once you have a moonpool for recharging, the seamoth is pretty self-sufficient... I then create the depth module and upgrade it to 900m, and use the seamoth for almost all exploring... it has enough power to go out to places and then come back, recharge in moonpool, and ready to go again. I always keepa spare power cell in a storage container on it, but I hardly ever have to use it.
