VR
Well i see here and there messages from people that they are playing SN in VR.

Can someone with such experience tell about how VR works with all SN performance issues?
I have drops from 120fps to 40 in good dayf with just fullhd. And VR specs says that you need permanent 90fps to avoid motion sick.

How do you guys handle SN in VR?

Launch the game in desktop mode , change the resolution to a much lower value , for example 1024 x 768 and set the game to run in windowed mode.. now launch the game in VR.. this definitely helps performance , although there is one caveat, you can easily lose mouse control by moving it out from the game window whilst in VR , a good alternative would be to use a joypad.. hope this helps , also this works for most VR titles , No point in running the game on high settings in the desktop.. I also turned AA off.. you can also Lower VR render scaling to 50 if you are still having performance issues.

The game really looks great in VR..performance for me is fine, there is the ocassional frame hitch but nothing drastic or game breaking , the devs have done a really nice job on the VR very immersive.

GL hope that works for you..:D

Edit : I also changed desktop refresh rate from 144Hz to 60Hz in nvidia control panel.. this also helps.

When it comes to motionsickness it really counts. Ive used 30-60fps in VR in extended periods. This game included without getting sickness. That varies between people.

Just got a rift yesterday and tried it out. The performance, was not the best in all cases, and I did get a little sick from this, where I didn't have any issues in other rift games (mostly played Robo Recall. Playing on a 1080 ti) .

The game didn't really seem polished for VR, it's a fun curiousity, but I couldn't imagine doing a full playthrough in VR yet(the controls are wonky). But I'll give it another go on the next release.

I agree that the game has some minor control issues in VR and also would not play this exclusively in VR , it is just too nice looking on a good display with everything set to max , although the VR is a very nice addition to an already very good game.

I hopefully get my rift today. You ordered it on the same sale I did I assume?
The game is absolutely sick in VR, I almost shat my pants when I was piloting my cyclops in total obscurity at 900m depth when two gigantic glowy transparent sea-serpents (I haven't played in a long time nor followed the updates so don't know what they are) attacked my sub. Just before my hull completely broke, I had to quit the game because I was so immersed thanks to the VR headset that I actually felt I was going to die...

However in VR I would only recommending piloting the cyclops.I'm still suffering from serious motion sickness from moving around on foot and in seamoth. But just piloting the cyclops is fun since your character isn't moving.

The controls (oculus touch for me) are pretty wonky though. Still haven't figured out how to go up or down in the sub. You might as well as play with your controller/k&m.

I know about the game but my GTX 960 4GB probably wont do the game justice. I cant afford it yet either. In some time I will afford a 1080Ti upgrade. Right now I enjoy most the other less demanding VR games. My 960 4GB runs suprizingly well. Even rick and morty VR runs on more than 90fps

Does this game have Vive controls mapped to it as well, or is it basic controls like pad and M+KB.

its K+M or gamepad only. Don't let that stop you, it's great. Think of it as a game with HMD support, not a VR game and you'll be happy.
Its a seated VR game. Dont call it something else. Those are in the categories seated tracked games or seated with K+M or gamepad.

"don't call it something else"?? I....didn't? I thought I spelled it out pretty well. Sorry I didn't say the words " It's a seated VR game".

Seriously? Oo

We'll technically you are right, but I see where Zefnoly is coming from. Technically the Vive & Oculus are classified as HMD's though it's technically a unibody HMD-VR device.

Just calling it an HMD "Head Mounted Display" makes it sound like people are strapping a monitor to their face. VR are HMD's but not all HMD's are VR.

Subnautica in VR doesn't make me sick in the slightest. I can play it for hours. The jutter, stutter pop in etc is jarring, immersion breaking and frustrating to put up with but it shouldn't make you sick unless you have a weak stomach.
Same...

While the performance in VR is great for me, I can't play it because the tablet thingy is just WAY too close to my eyes. Feels like it's right on my nose, and that hurts my eyes. The hud is also twithy for some reason when turning my head, though the 3D world itself renders perfectly.

What HMD are you using and what version of the game? Im playing stable 1.0 release now and everything is perfectly fine on my Rift. The PDA is far from too close and the UI is easy to see.
