So laggy with new update
How the heck am I supposed to play with practically 4 fps? Even on low everything, Subnautica is being ridiculous. Even with 12 GB RAM. Ugh.

Hey there. Can you post up your full system specs? Also, the new graphics are just options. You can disable them to get back to what you had before.
CPU: Intel (R) Xeon (R) CPU 3530 @ 2.80 GHz
RAM: 12288 megabytes
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5770 Open GL Engine
GPU RAM: 1024 megabytes
OS: Mac OS 10.12.1
Threads: 8 logical processors
Version: 57474
Build Date: 12/7/2017 5:19:05 AM
I did disable the new graphics to back before. It's slightly less laggy, but is there a way to go back to an older version?

Hi, Thanks for your specs.

You're actually below our minimum specs for Subnautica. Your Xeon is from 2010 and about to be 8 years old. Your GPU is 7 years old and no longer supported by Unity, or AMD/ATi with driver updates. It is classed as obsolete by them in terms of support, which makes it very difficult to make games work on them.

There is only so much we can do to make older hardware work with the game. There are tricks on steam you can use to play older versions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jPmNM95jTg), but our game was not designed to work on your hardware so you will sadly experience issues such as bad performance & crashing.

my cpu is 8 years old too. phenom x6. runs games at max settings smooth lel. amd > intel....8 years ago
Thank you very much Obraxis for your help, sorry for the late reply. I will try to get a better processor (Nvidia) for my games. Thank you very much, this was probably the most helpful reply for speed on computers I've ever had.

Regarding older hardware, Subnautica runs quite good with my machine, not able to stay at 60 fps but no actual stuttering so far with the new update.

CPU:
Intel Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (runs @ 3.5GHz)

Graphic:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 2GB

Ram:
12288 MBytes DDR3
I have something you can try but it will wipe all your progress. Make a Steam Backup of the game somewhere and uninstall it via Steam and delete and folder contents it leaves behind. Reinstall the game via Steam Backup and it might run like it use to. Mine always has the same problems with new updates so I do this method and it fixes my problem. I hope this helps.

EDIT: Also if you have bad FPS I suggest capping the game after you did all the above and its running much better. Not sure it has in game FPS cap options yet but because you are AMD I will suggest using MSI Afterburner's Rivaturner that you can use to cap the game to the lowest FPS you get. This will offer a much better experience than FPS that is all over the place causing some stuttering.

Subnautica is a very CPU intensive game.Even with an FX 8 core AMD processor, i'm forced I prefer to run the game on low settings.Fortunately, I have an RX 480 and are able to turn up the new graphic sliders with little impact on fps.

slow cpu + low end vid = bad experience

slow cpu + good gpu = playable but polygons, distant objects, textures of things will be harsh to look at on low settings but able to turn on fx options; bloom, motion blur, ambient occlusion etc

good cpu + low end vid = able to render the game in med/high settings with most of the graphic features off with good performance. Resolution will be a huge impact here.

It's as simple as that.

Really you cant get medium settings with what you have?

I play at medium settings with no issues

AMD 8350
AMD 7850 2 gig

I can yes, but I do not get 60 fps during heavy visual scenes, so I prefer the low setting.

I think using the word "forced" was a bad decision.

Still seems strange I dont have any problems that I notice.
So it turns out I was being dumb and the graphics in the console (not the menu) were set to high without my knowledge. It runs so much better now, the update is awesome, there is no problem with the release video, by the way. Thank you anyway for your help and time.
