Do NOT like new graphics
I do not like these new graphics at all. It looks more cartoony now than it does realistic. And there are some pretty stupid side effects. They tried to make it look more realistic by making things blurry in the distance. But this effect even takes effect while you are inside a base! I can understand that effect in the water, but not on the surface or in a base. I keep thinking I have a smudge on my glasses. Totally dumb.
I also have a strange twisted metal structure viewable in the distance ONLY while I'm in my base. If I go outside its gone. So new bugs yay.
I tried disabling all the new settings but you still get the stupid blurry distance effect. One of the things I really liked about this game was the graphics clarity and realism. Now it just looks like a cartoon.

Mmkay. I'm not sure why you think my post warranted an insult. Plenty of other people are saying the same thing. So it ain't just me.

Wow, strong fanboy cult here. I've got a 140 hours into the game and have finished it (up to the current content anyways). So I feel like I'm entitled to my opinion. I'm just providing feedback for the devs that I do not like this new direction.

+1 turned them all off. My eyes dont have such blur, motion blur, DoF or color distortion..

Im not sure you know what fanboy means either. But if you think adding new effects that exist for real life cameras makes a game more cartoony, well then i cant say im surprised. This is especially stupid when you realize, the game was never realistic looking. Why this is a problem now baffles me to no end.

How could you say the graphics were ever realistic in style? The main character looks like he was made in the style of Borderlands or Overwatch, and the models for most of the things in-game seem to follow that graphical style.

Ex: the flashlight, the scanner, the prawn suit, many of the creatures, etc.

Some of the first person animations even have that quick, bouncy feel that those games have.

I also don't understand the absurd backlash for this update considering all of you play on PC! You can literally turn it off, pretend it never existed, and be done with it.

Yeah I'll agree on the look of the main character. Playing in POV you rarely get a glimpse of yourself. I can't even remember where I saw the main character (myself). Maybe it was a reflection. But I find the rest of the graphics in the world fairly realistic looking. At least as far as my apparently uncultured and uneducated eyes can see. *rolls eyes*
And sure you can turn off the graphics, fine. But they default to on, and its kind of sad to think that new players are going to form their opinions not knowing the game looks better when they disable all those effects.

Most people who play on PC are well aware of how to adjust graphic options, and are well aware of what kind of settings they generally prefer. I for one always go into the options first whenever I fire up a new game just so I can turn off DOF, motion blur, chromatic abberation etc, and to adjust AA, FOV and whatever else. I would almost be willing to bet that most PC gamers do the same, does anyone ever just leave all the settings on default?

And the options will be saved when you save your game. Or atleast mine do.

The new graphics are all optional, you can get back to exactly what you had before.

Well first, saying they look better is entirely subjective. When I first turned on experimental mode to test these options before they arrived in the base game, I thought they made the game look much better. The only issue I have is that the Depth of Field is just a little less dynamic than it is in some other games when it comes to focusing on objects. Other than that, it makes the graphics look a lot less barebones, and a lot more Sci-Fi, which is nice.

Exactly. The PC gamer who judges a game based on its default settings has got to be one in a million. People like me with higher end PC's will be turning settings up because unless the game has a hardware detection system, the settings usually aren't cranked to the max. Those of us with low-end PC's or those of us who don't like post-processing effects will be turning the settings down to reach their preference or desired performance. Rarely will you find someone who plays on PC and runs the default settings for very long.
