The dead zone is the volcanic crater?
If it is... why then we fall more than 2k meters? (the volcanic crater is 2000 x 2000 meters long)

NO, NO and NO!!! My god, isn't it obvious? This 2km x 2km volcanic crater is our map. The map we play on is the peak of this volcano! And because it is volcano, all around the map is steep drop to depths that are soo deep because volcanos are really high, it could lead thousands of kilomethers deep.

What puts me off about the underwater volcano thing is that you can actually swim under the entire game world, making it more like one massive floating island. Nevertheless, the PDA entry you get when you cross into the Void does mention something about a volcano. Doesn't really look like one giant caldera to me, but go figure. I suppose if pretty much anything gets big enough it can distort your impression of what it actually is.

@Pedro Never said the entire world, just the area in the game.

so what is life like further down or is this the only area in game thats a oasis of life because its in shallower water due to the volcano?

i think they should have a expansion that allows you to go deeper into the deadzone and after a certian depths it loads in deep biomes. you would just have to avoid the phantom levianthains on the way down lol.

Besides the Safe Shallows, I never could keep the names of the biomes straight.

"This one's got floaty things. This is really sandy. Oh! 'Shrooms!"

Btw it also explains why are all precursor facilities built here, because everywhere elswere on the planet it's soo deep that they simply could build only here. It also explains why is there only one precursor weapon facility.
Earth has life at the bottom of the deepest trenches. They live in condition which prior to their discovery broke the rule of life as we knew it.
A planet of almost total water would certainly have life at all depths. Especially considering most of earths life is in our oceans and we are only 70% water coverage.

considering that the planet is a giant earth like planet but 99.9% is water i don't think that the entire planet is a massive underwater volcano, otherwise it would be an extremely luck that the Aurora fell in the only place that is not void
not only that but i remeber reading a report about them considering an antartic like biome for a dlc

Actually, when you beat the game in you get a good view of a large portion of the map, you see several islands and a rather large and mysterious area covered by what seems to be ice *cough* arctic DLC *cough*

the devs do confirm this tho. Look up the data entry for "crater edge"

Still doesn't make sense.

I mean, that's literally what Yellowstone National Park is... Beautiful landscapes sitting directly on top of a super volcano. Subnautica is just the underwater version of this.

There is nothing below the crator, though. You can actually go underneath the entire game world.

Having the game world be a gigantic floater island would make more sense and would fit with the whole floating rock concept if it wasn't for the lava.

EDIT: Fixed typo and word repetition.

And this is likely why the devs put in the "teleported at 8000 meters" thing in the game, so people wouldn't find that large plothole and assume it just keeps going down to the true ocean floor.

The going under the map problem was likely a mistake on their part.

That's just gameplay limitations. They don't really mean for you to go that deep and be able to swim under it all
