Subnautica is built on Unity, which is in bed with Nintendo and makes it easy to get Unity games on the Wii U and Switch. With that said, the Switch is painfully short on hardware for a game like Subnautica. The game is already graphically neutered for the XBONE, the Switch would be far less feasable.

No.

It's unlikely we would port to the Switch as it has limited hardware. But it would be cool.
If Doom works, this would work. It will no doubt run slower, and it may still be even more blurry. But would not that somehow sort of fit better here all the same? I think there would also be more leeway to make it more cartoony and save performance on simpler textures and so on.

Doom relies mostly on the GPU, it doeesnt need a powerful CPU to run. Subnautica needs more CPU power for it's open-world environment and ecosystems.
the switch has to have a decent GPU considering that i can run breath of the wild unless it uses CPU to run that
As the dev said; unfortunately it is unlikely.. I think playing subnautica wherever I wanted would be very cool, but in the end I still only play it on the PC i guess (I prefer ultrawide).

And seeing as a dev responded to this forum; I would like to take this moment to thanks you guys for this amazing game!!! As a recreational diver (although it has been several years since my last dive) there is not a single game like this that captured that feeling (not even the endless ocean and everblue series; those are good games btw). I hope this game will be a financial succes so we can have several sequels over the next years :) GL
Gee, why not just make a FitBit version too? Pfft.

I could be mistaken here, but if the switch is both capable of running DOOM as well as games like Skyrim and The legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, both of which have much bigger maps than Subnautica, I fail to see why it wouldn't be able to run Subnautica. I bought the PC version of Subnautica less than a year ago while I was building my PC and was able to scrape by even though my PC had no GPU whatsoever at more than 30FPS. I would be shocked if the switch couldn't do the same, or better. I don't see CPU power being an issue either because of the fact that it, again, runs games like Skyrim, Zelda, and Human: Fall flat. Skyrim, like Subnautica, has a vast area of space to travel but is able to keep track of anything I were to drop or kill, even if I come back to it days later. Zelda and Human exhibit amazing physics, again, done by the CPU. I could be wrong here, but it seems totally do-able. The thing is, I love Subnautica, but I really can't play it as much as I would like to, as my PC is a desktop and I can't afford to carry my laptop setup with my anywhere, nevermind use the battery up. Given the market that the switch is intended for, by my prediction, Subnautica would be a massive success on the switch and end up on the top charts immediately if the DEVs could get it running, which shouldn't be too hard because of the unity engine. And the thing about the switch, games on it don't have to be graphically perfect for the game to be a hit, as seen with Rocket League, a massive success on the switch, it just has to be "good enough" to justify the portability. 30FPS and lowish - medium graphical settings running at 720 or 1080p would be perfectly acceptable, as long as it runs smooth and all the elements of the game are there. It would take the switch market by storm, for sure. It would be a day one pickup for me, as I really want to play Subnautica more than I can, which is probably the case for many Subnautica players, as well as a pretty good amount of switch players that don't own a PC or other console, or aren't home a lot. I say this with all due respect, however, as I love the game regardless.

Check the thread date.
I thought this thread died
but it still exsist
Thread date's got nothing to do with it. This is a cool idea and I'd love to see it happen. At the very least if the game isn't actually ported we can always homebrew and rock a NVIDIA Shield style of streaming from the toilet.
Thread date is irrelevant... Just throwing my thought out there...
Subnautica gives my pc (built to run a Vive headset) trouble in some of the more resource intensive areas.

A console/handheld built to run low end cartoony graphics like Mario/Zelda and nearly decade old games from the last generation is not going to have the chops to run this.

Make no mistake, I own a switch and enjoyed BotW.. but in the end it is a handheld, and is never going to compete on an even playing field with other consoles.. let alone high end PC's.
