Can't seem to find the main entrance to the Disease Research Facility
I was down in the Lost River and I guess I found the 'back door' but it requires an alien artifact I don't have (the ones that opened the forcefields for the alien gun don't seem to work). Lately I've been trying to find the main entrance to this place so I can explore it and advance the story.

I'm confused. The Precursor Disease Research Facility is in the Lost River. Do you mean the Primary Containment Facility (PCF) down below the lava black castle in the LZ? If so, you need the blue key from the thermal plant inside the lava castle. You'll also need to make, or get, a purple key to open the forcefield to the blue key. Be sure to scan it before collecting since you must make another from the fabricator since the PCF requires two of them.

No I meant the Precursor Disease Research facility. In one area in the Lost River there is this massive alien skull but I can't get behind the forcefield, and I'm having difficulty finding other entrances.

All main precursor bases look more or less the same. Two are big facilities (The gun, and the PCF), two are suspended cubic structures (Geothermal plant, disease research which is derelict)

You probably found a precursor cache, which isn't the PDR

I still can't find it. Was there some sort of way point I missed?

Wait do you mean the lost river lab? The one that needs an orange key?

Someone mentioned that is likely a precursor cache. Comparing the coordinates on the wiki, I'm pretty sure they are correct.

The orange artifact place, understandably, seems important.

It has a giant skeleton with alien doodads built around it. It has a force field that requires a one of a kind artifact to open found only inside a Degasi base.

But that place (currently) is essentially fluff and a couple ion crystals.

The actual "Plot base" is down a side path in the lost river and wont render until you've already driven through the thing half the time with the whole place popping in once you are right next to it. So you may have looked right at the entrance to that base several times only to ignore it because "Oh, looks like nothing is in that dead end room".

That said? You can actually straight up skip the disease research base and start making your way to the lava biomes. It's the only one you can just straight up skip and still complete the plot. You only have to go there if you want more lore text, but most of what that place says, is already said elsewhere.

Even when it does give a signal for the thermal plant (Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't, sometimes game upddates erase my signal to the thermal plant), there really isn't all that much down in the lava biomes and finding the Alien Thermal Plant is just a matter of "Keep driving", same with the Alien Containment Facility.

If I recall right, I think the Disease Research Facility is also the only alien base with no warp gates, making it truly a dead end destination.

Whelp. IIRC from the dead dragon leviathan skeleton, you want to wander east. The path down is directly opposite of the ghost tree, which should be directly west of the leviathan skeleton. So if you see the giant ghost tree do a 180.

I think you drop down to about 800 meters, down a waterfall or deep hole, and there's a lot of poisonous green fog pools and manta rays. Sudden deep drop, so should see it quite easily. If you look around you'll run across the bits and pieces of the main facility, follow them back to the big facility itself.

Shouldn't be more than 200 meters from where you drop down to the 800 meter range, not far at all. Might be around a corner so not direct line of sight, but it's close, and lots of debris and alien pipes and such around the base marking it's general location.

The entrance to the disease facility itself is on its east side near the top iirc. Big rectangular hole/doorway. Circled the damn thing like 10 times trying to find the entrance. It's flooded, so you'll want to bring something for air supply and maybe a dive reel to get back out before your air runs out.

Yeah, I agree. The DRF has nothing but a few data downloads, few stuff to scan and two ion crystals with a somewhat helpful Thermal Plant beacon that doesn't point you to the entrance of the castle. You can skip it if you already know much of the story.

The giant creature skull with the lights is near the cache.

The dragon remains are near the research facility.

i always did spend 15 minutes searching for a hole in the castle while trying to avoid the overgrown hellspawns - probably 70% of the time i actually spend in the lava zones per file
